Trying to clear the passphrase, by entering a blank one, prompts, first, a confirmation window, then a window asking for the passphrase to be repeated, and then . . well, try for yourself. Still, I have trouble seeing what is going on, because of this other bug.

Works flawlessly here. Where do you get a loop?

Hi. I think the problem is that I get repeatedly asked for a passphrase
      - and I presume that the new passphrase is wanted. When so prompted, I
just press return - because I am trying to enter a blank passphrase.

I am afraid I won't have any more time for this until, probably, the new
      year.

You are 1st asked for your old password, and then twice for the new one.

But depending on the gpg4win version you are using, I'm not sure that you can remove the password entirely by just leaving it empty.

I recently also experienced the same problem with Gpg4win-2.3.3 and Enigmail 1.9.6 on Windows 10.
(Thunderbird 45.5.1 or 45.6.0 - not sure anymore)

    Same here, see https://sourceforge.net/p/enigmail/forum/support/thread/ebc3242b/
    (Enigmail 1.9.6.1, Windows 10, Thunderbird 52)

This cannot be fixed by Enigmail.
