Bug 9230 migrated from Mozdev.org

If an e-mail contains other e-mails as attachments and at least one attachment
is signed, Enigmail messes up the way Mozilla usually displays the HTTP headers
for attached mails.

Please be a bit more detailled in order to unterstand the problem!

Could you please give the exact circumstances:
- the main mail (1) you are talking about:
- is it plain text, signed or encrypted
- if signed or encrypted: is it PGP/MIME or inline
- the mail attached to it (2):
- is it plain text, signed or encrypted
- if signed or encrypted: is it PGP/MIME or inline
- the attachment:
- does it refer to the attachet mail (2),
- an attachment to (2) or
- an attachment to (1) other that (2)?

Does your problem happen in other cases, too?
Could you please provide a sample message?
Could you provide a screenshot of what you refer to being "messed up"?

Thanks for your help!

Patrick:

I added a first line ("From - Sat Feb 12 17:14:04 2005") to the sample mail and
put it into the local mail directory. The first time I viewed it, GnuPG
automatically retreived his key and I got the GnuPG 1.4 renaming error (using
the patched! test-TB+EM) and displayed it 100% correct!

However I did not manage to view it correctly again. It now always gets
displayed like this (looks as one mail with garbled text, plus the 4 attachments
at the bottom):

Enigmail: Attachments to this message have not been signed or encrypted

Setting
user_pref("extensions.enigmail.displaySignWarn", false);
in the prefs and restarting did not change anything.

There's not an anwful lot I can do about it. The problem is that inline PGP is
a
hack. If you enable "view attachments inline", Mozilla does not return proper
MIME parts, but just all that's visible. The result of the decrypt or verify
action is then interpreted as plain text by Mozilla. I fear you just have 2
options:
- either disable automaticaly decrypt/verify
- or disable view attachments inline

I leave the bug open, hoping that I'll find a way some time in the future to
fix
this.

By the way, it's not the only problem with attached messages...

It's true: after successfull installing this program into Thunderbird, on all
my received mails are disappeared html attachment, like images and so on
(remain only links to them and simple text).
If I remove and forget this program may I have back my original mails as they
were?

Hi Nicola,

you may disable or uninstall Enigmail in the AddOns window and be back to what
it was before. However, the setting you refer to was modified by the wizard and
will not be reverted upon uninstall. Maybe just reenabling "View" -> "Show
message as" -> "Original HTML" instead of "Plain Text" does help already? I use
the AddOn "Allow HTML Temp"
(https://addons.mozilla.org/de/thunderbird/addon/1556) to stay with Plain Text
most of the times but show HTML in certain mails only.

Anyway, I think that your trouble is not related to this bug and kindly ask you
to discuss support questions on the forum or the mailing list.

Olav
