I think development has been halted/stopped(?) so far, could revive it though :) Well I don't think a cd/dvd-burner program is going to utilise dual cores/processors - since it would be hard to keep both threads occupie= d since it's more than likely only 1 thread is going to do the work. Sorry I haven't been able to keep in touch as often as I would like. How's developement going? Has there been alot of progress lately? Heya it's been a long time, I don't think any progress has been made lol. Hey all! It's been a long time since our last chat... I've been away almost all the time, enjoying the summer and forgettin' about programming, linux, internet, and computers in general :) So, hozit goin'? Has anyone made any progress, any piece of fresh code? Please let me know... wanna catch up with the project again. Next week I'll install linux in my box so I can start working again (I messed up my linux install almost three months ago, and I haven't reinstalled ever since). Hey, As resembelkanix pointed out, there's a way to avoid long command lines when calling mkisofs: using -path-list <file>. This way, we could add as many files as we like, without breaking the shell. I've had to rewrite some functions, and fix some others, but the job is done. I've tested the client again, and everything seems to work alright... Hey all, I've finished burnOnTheFly function. It burns CDs without using temp ISO images. I've also updated client.c to have it use the new features. If you want to test them, update your CVS copy, build it, and get yourself an input file with the list of files to burn (you can use the program I sent in last mail). Note that last mail's function builds the list with all the files under a certain directory, but doesn't recurse subdirs. It fails if it encounters a subdir within that dir (because it interprets it as a file). So, put the files you want to burn inside a directory, run ./mkisofs <that_dir> <dest_file>, cd to that dir, and issue ./client. When asked for the input file, point to the file created with mkisofs <dest_file>. Please test it in as many different situations as you can. Hey, genISO function is done! This function actually generates an ISO image, given a list with the files in an specific format. The format, as you may know, is: filename_in_ISO=filename_in_disk filename2_in_ISO=filename2_in_disk ... You have to scape \\ and = with \\. To make it easier for you to test this new function, I've maid a little program (attached to this mail) that generates this list (properly escaped). You issue ./makelist <dir> <file>, and it will generate a list in <file> with all the files in <dir> (not recursing subdirs). Hi all, mkisofsCommand function is almost ready. Only space substitution is left to be done, but this task is not as trivial as it seems... you have to substitute all the spaces that ocur before the first = unescaped symbol (escaped with \\). Now, the function is able to deal with special chars such as =, \, \\, ", and others. I've maid a little script to test these features, making an iso out of four or five files with special characters on their names. If you want to test it, checkout/build the latest CVS version, and copy this script to the wrapper dir, where 'geniso' binary is located: #!/bin/bash touch "file with \\.dat" "file with \".dat" "file with \\\\.dat" \ "file with =.dat" cat > list <<EOF file with \.dat=file with \.dat file with ".dat=file with ".dat file with \\\\\\\\.dat=file with \\\\\\\\.dat file with \\\\=.dat=file with \\\\=.dat EOF ./geniso echo "Cleaning up..." rm "file with \\.dat" "file with \".dat" "file with \\\\.dat" \ "file with =.dat" list && echo "Success!" && exit echo "Failed!" An interactive session would be as follows (suppose we named the script runtest.sh): ./runtest.sh Input file: list <- you MUST enter list here Name of the ISO: test.iso ISO level: 3 Volume name: My Volume Name Publisher: The Enflame Project Preparer: David Lago ==== mkisofs command ==== mkisofs -graft-points -r -J -joliet-long -U -relaxed-filenames -L -allow-lowercase -max-iso9660-filenames -allow-multidot -iso-level 3 -V "My Volume Name" -publisher "The Enflame Project" -preparer "David Lago" -sys "Linux 2.6.11-gentoo-r11 i686" -appid "Enflame 0.1.1" -o test.iso "file with \\.dat=file with \\.dat" "file with \".dat=file with \".dat" "file with \\\\\\\\.dat=file with \\\\\\\\.dat" "file with \\=.dat=file with \\=.dat" Do you want to create that ISO? y Warning: creating filesystem that does not conform to ISO-9660. If you want to take a look at what files were created, as well as the list file (formatted file with pairs filename_in_ISO=filename_in_disk), comment the rm line on the script. agreed... lets take small steps... make something stable and usable... with some quality behind it. heres my 2 cents on this matter there are LOTS of people out there that install the kdelibs just because k3b is really the only full featured choice that even half way works like its supposed to. think of how many users we would have if we *just* made it comparable in features. ALOT of people would use our software if it would just burn iso's ... do audio and support projects. our pull for users stems from the fact that we will not require a phat set of libraries to use it... truth of the matter is *if* all the efl libraries are required ... they are very small compared to having to drag kdelibs or even gtk2 along with it. this will be a huge advantage to people who use E or flux or xfce or whatever alternative wm they like... heck even people that use gnome will have a good choice without the need for the dreaded K*. i agree with the fact that we should think of unique features. but i dont feel we should push the matter in the beginning. We have already seen alot of interest in this software for it to be so new and not even released yet. I think we are on to something... many others have tried to make something usable but most have failed or they simply stopped releasing new versions. if our feature set is equal to k3b... our software is still much greater than theirs because of the way we chose to implement those features by giving users a choice. well thats enough ranting for me=20 ChEEzE On 6/16/05, David Lago <dl...@mu...> wrote: > Sup, >=20 > Well, I think Wilan is right.... we sould add new features, features > that nobody has implemented yet, to make this program an attractive > choice. Sup, Well, I think Wilan is right.... we sould add new features, features that nobody has implemented yet, to make this program an attractive choice. Hey, We should probably try and think of something out of the ordinary to make enflame more unique :) I agree, K3b is too much like KDE and I'm not really fond of KDE for some weird reason (for one, the looks turn me off). Well it's pretty hard to think of good things to include that no one has done before since we are quite limited to the cdrecord interface. I think dlworld a while ago, suggested a network burn which is a good idea - and/or we could have a mini-web feature that downloads an .iso from a LAN/internet and automatically burns it for the user. Or another feature where the user can "pile" up several burning sessions into one, instead of having to burn one - then get ready to make another iso, burn that one and then get ready for another - not really revolutionary but could be a nice feature for those who like to get their hands messy at the start and just insert blank cd/dvds after every burn. I don't think k3b has a previewing feature of the ISO being generated (they have a simulation but I don't *think* the user gets to see the actual contents of their ISO), so we could have that which is simply mounting an iso via loopback onto a mount point in /mnt (this could be /mnt/cdrom to make it feel more "previewish" or can be a user-specified mount point). Or we can have more user-friendly guidelines, for example when installing the program make sure they have SCSI emulation on for their IDE drives, if they don't have it on - still let them install it but just give a warning and how to turn them on. I found it frustrating when I first used k3b and could only burn at a 0.3x speed because I forgot to put on SCSI emulation and took me a while to figure out I needed the emulation for it to work properly. Hopefully we can add better and cooler features than the *aheM* competition :) Well I got exams at the moment, so not really active but when I finish hopefully I can get something done :p On 6/16/05, CoolChEEzE <coo...@gm...> wrote: > lol ... okay man... they have a lot of features that we have > planned... and i rekon a look see at the code might help some :) gotta > love OSS :) >=20 >=20 >=20 > On 6/16/05, David Lago <dl...@mu...> wrote: > > Hey, > > > > Well, as far as I understand, Qt is only used for the GUI, not for both > > of the libs (libk3b and libk3bdevice). Hey, Well, as far as I understand, Qt is only used for the GUI, not for both of the libs (libk3b and libk3bdevice). Anyway, I only posted that news to show you where K3b guys are headed, just in case we need to take a look at their code. Don't worry, cheeze... we're sticking to C :) (although I think that if we finally switch to C++ It would only take you a week to adapt, anyway lol) Greets, David. -- David Lago <dl...@mu...> PGP key available at: http://pgp.mit.edu Personal Blizog: http://arcanelinux.org/blog/dlworld The Enflame Project: http://enflame.org |

yes i agree... i htink it does require QT and some other kde libraries.... and it would have to be *really* amazing to impress me.... because i have been less than impressed by k3b thus far. The 'setup' is flakey and it requires alot of phat bloated libraries to go along with it.... and well.. it looks like kde IMHO what we are doing here is providing users with a choice.... A good choice.. not a half baked wierd un-friendly choice.... i say we press on. im totally against anything requiring QT or any KDE library. my 2 cents On 6/15/05, Jesse Rhodes <j.v...@gm...> wrote: > Doesn't libk3b/libk3bdevice require Qt, though? here is a snippet from their 'requirements' page /* paste */ # KDE >=3D 3.2 - KDE is the great window manager, the powerful desktop, the very powerful c++ library K3b is based on, and a lot of programs. # QT >=3D 3.2 KDE 3.2 requires the QT library version 3.2, a cross-platform GUI development toolkit. Since K3b is a threaded application QT needs to be compiled with threading support enabled. # cdrecord/mkisofs - Cdrecord creates home-burned CDs with a CD-R/CD-RW recorder. # dvd+rw-tools - The DVD+RW-Tools are used to burn and format DVD+R(W) and DVD-R(W) media. For DVD+R Double Layer burning version >=3D 5.20.4.10.8 is required. /*paste*/ it looks as if though it might be tough to break it out from that... and dang man.. i spent the last several days learning one language... if at all possible id like to stick with it for a bit.... unless you have a reason that i cant think of as to why we should switch gears... i say we press on my friends :) ChEEzE On 6/15/05, CoolChEEzE <coo...@gm...> wrote: > yes i agree... i htink it does require QT and some other kde > libraries.... and it would have to be *really* amazing to impress > me.... because i have been less than impressed by k3b thus far. Doesn't libk3b/libk3bdevice require Qt, though? That would veer away from the no-required-DE design ideal.
