I played as031.avi using pcm out of the dvp632 like this: System, Audio, 
Digital, PCM. The dvp642 is connected to the Receiver via coaxial cable. 
The Receiver display indicated PCM instead of Dolby sound and played the 
file with good a/v sync. Thank you!

I did upgrade the firmware from 1223(year?) to 0603(2006).

The video still lags as before with digital audio. I understand this is 
the latest firmware. I hold out little hope that any more firmware will 
be released. At least I can rest assured that my archive is good and 
someday I may get a better hardware player than the dvp642.
