#143 Can't record using Live! Drive mic jack

I have SuSE 9.1 installed on my machine. My sound card
is an SB Live! Platinum. So it has the Live! Drive. I
can not get any programs like Audacity, Broadcast 2000
or KRecord to record from the mic jack on the Live!
Drive. I can record from the mic jack on the sound
card. I am getting output from the Live! Drive mic
jack to the speakers and I have recorded from this jack
in Windows. So I know the hardware is OK.

So I looked around at this forum and found that I
probably need to run emu-dspmgr to configure the driver
to correctly route the jacks on the Live! Drive. I
installed emu-tools 0.9.4-553 from the SuSE
distribution disks. Then I tried to run emu-dspmgr and
it fails with the following error message:

SOUND_MIXER_PRIVATE3: You're probably using an older
incompatible driver: Input/output error

And emu-config gives this error message:

SOUND_MIXER_PRIVATE3: Input/output error

So what do I do now? I feel stuck at this point.
