Hi, I'm a happy user of the emu10k1-driver, which has worked for me flawlessly for quite a while. Recently, I started experimenting with mplayer, the great linux multimedia player, streaming live pictures from DVB (European digital video standard). After streaming for some time, sound output stops, and only a high-pitched beep can be heard. Sounds like a very short stuck sample. There are no error messages. The card still consumes its input data. If output is stopped, the sound stops. If resumed, the same beep is on again. Nothing I have tried short of a rebooting solved the problem. Unloading and reloading the emu10k1-module, or 'emu-dspmgr -z', does not have any effect. Using a different sound source: Same thing. Even switching to alsa drivers does not solve it: Same sound. Second output (rear): Same thing Something I know about mplayer ist that it uses a variant of libao2 is its constant use of SNDCTL_DSP_GETOSPACE and SNDCTL_DSP_GETODELAY, presumably to sync audio and video. These ioctl are called every few ms. This has never before happened playing DVDs with the same software, playing streams from DVD, which are quite similar. Somehow, the hardware is stuck. Is the hardware broken, or is there a know problem with the emu10k1? |
