You can just use the OSS driver in the 2.6 kernel, instead
of using ALSA. I had some problems with the ALSA driver in
2.6.1-mm4, and recompiled the kernel using the OSS driver
instead - works like a charm.

I use OSS driver on Debian(Woody)/kernel 2.6.4. It works OK
with all programs from emu-tools package! I don't use ALSA
'cause I couldn't get DolbyDigital decoding of MP3's to work
with it but with OSS driver it works COOL!
