Running Redhat 7.2. 2.4.17 kernel.
Abit KG7 motherboard, Athlon XP1700+
SBLive original. Using original daughtercard with
digital output.

Sound is clear when using standard sound included with
RedHat, Standard compiled in kernel module, or 0.15.

With 0.18 bowever, sound is mixed with crackling noise.

    Not alone. RH 7.2 (2.4.17)
    Asus a7v mother board
    Duron cpu

Turning of cd helps. Turning down digital 2 (and upping
pcm and main) cuts most of it out.

Fine with 2.4.5 (The kernel I use most often)

    Additionally in 0.18 quake3 (1.30) crashes. (2.4.5 driver
works fine) Is the mmap support broken? My guess is the
ac97_driver, which I have heard causes problems with mmap.
(what version is prior to having included that, so I can
    test and see?)

Unfortuantely SF isn't letting me login, so please send
    any replies to me.

Make sure that highmem support isn't enabled in your kernel
or try the latest drivers (as of may).

    Sounds like my coffee-maker.

Clear when integrated sound device is used.

Will try what the person with a Duron said.
