Hello, when EMC2 was started by Paul Corner and John Kasunich, they did a great job to clean up EMC and they made it developer friendly. Thanks a lot !!! But there was one potential restriction taken from EMC1 -> the messaging layer For new developers, and most of the existing, it is now easy to work on EMC2 but if they want to add new messages they fail. Today started the 1million and 51th discussion about NML in the IRC channel. The most of that discussions was more or less some nagging about NML. Maybe the discussion today has started a real discussion about a alternative !!! So what do we need ??? In my opinion we don't need a system that can be distributed over different computers by itself. If there are no safety functions in there, it makes no sense. In that case that job can easily be done by VNC or a telnet or ssh session. With safety functions I mean that the machine goes to estop if the remote GUI or remote computer crash's, for example. So in my thinking a local message system will be enough. Maybe it is possible and reasonable to implement it in pure C code. There must be a easy way for developers to add new messages Best Regards Martin (aka Imperator_) |
