Gene, J&L, Enco, MSC all have small shank boring/threading bars. jlindustrial.com, use-enco.com, mscdirect.com Indexable boring/threading/grooving bars (with replaceable inserts) typically go for $100 to $250 for the bar in that size, expect to pay $10 to $20 per for the inserts. There are different styles available, namely "notch" and "laydown" for internal threading. Bars and inserts are priced roughly the same for the different systems, so the choice is yours. Although you need to be sure the minimum bore capability of the bar is acceptable for the work you normally plan to do. Small shank solid carbide internal threading tools go for $20 - $30 from various places. So that may be an option too, if you don't really need an indexable bar, or if the hole is too small for an indexable bar. HTH -Josh Seaton |
