#297 move useful info from the wiki to the docs in git

The wiki is good for quickly prototyping docs, or for doing collaborative development of docs with folks who don't want to use git. But real docs are better tracked with git and distributed along with our product.

Examples of pages that might be better moved to the real docs are:

There are probably others.

The wiki pages should be changed to point to the auto-generated docs, and eventually removed.
