open halscope and record a signal. click on the 'xx samples at xx hz' button to open the thread selection dialog. now change your mind and close the window. halscope exits completely, taking your data with it!
this is imo not a real bug. the window which opens does say "select Quit to exit halscope", and the button you have to press is labeled "Quit" not "Cancel". I agree it would make a nice feature request to have a "Cancel" button on that window.

sorry if I was not specific enough. halscope quits even if you click the "x" window manager button to destroy the window
