Another option for developers on this list would be to leave Embedlets dormant for the time being and get involved directly with the JDDAC project. As Chris indicated, JDDAC is being backed by both Sun and Agilent and through Agilent (which is helping to drive the IEEE 1451 standard) an increasing number of important companies are being brought on board. A large amount of the thinking that has been discussed in the Embedlets group over the past couple of years lines up very well with JDDACs objectives but the benefits to working directly with JDDAC over Embedlets include increased visibility at the center of the Embedded Java universe (which has a greater chance of leading to paying work). Perhaps sometime in the future there will be an opportunity to bring Embedlets under the JDDAC umbrella but for now, JDDAC is new but well-backed, momentum in the project is growing and the opportunity is open for Embedded Java developers to get involved.
