Hyperlinks (e.g. http://www.example.com/example.html or jsmith@example.com) in a chat buffer can only be selected by clicking on them with mouse, and not by moving the cursor over them and hitting return.
Did you tried standart for `goto-address' package keybinding C-c RET ?
At every new p2p or MUC message, chat printer jabber-chat-goto-address set up goto-address mode that must bind C-cRET to goto-address-at-point locally for lines contains urls. It works for me at latest git.
