#12 Slow startup / shutdown time w/ 5000+ message maildir

Compared to the latest mutt elmo's Maildir processing is
slow.

1) Reading maildir is about 2x slower than mutt

2) Exiting the app is 50x slower (there should be no
delay when hit 'q' to quit).
