Hello there, I'm inquiring to ask if I could entice the developers here to add IRIX support. I am more than interested in doing so myself, but I've not yet fully studied your codebase, so I just wanted to open dialogue and "put the bug in your ear" so to speak. Now, because you may be asking, let me give you the "why": SGI IRIX is a proprietary OS, yes, but I (the admin of IRIXNet) am working on developing continuously for the OS despite its discontinuation. To that end, getting modern UNIX tools such as nm, strip, ar etc. would be nice to replace those on IRIX. IRIX currently would be able to use all of the utils with the exception of ranlib - as those operations of libraries are done transparently by our linker. It may also help with obtaining compatibility on Solaris (IRIX has similarities to Solaris 8 and 9) and other System V ones. Before you ask, I have an SGI IRIX server I am more than happy to provide access to. Please let me know if I can be of assistance. I am currently running my own builds to try and get it working, and if I find any patches that can help them build, I will. Best Regards! Kazuo Kuroi |
