The first version will contain functionality for viewing electronic dictionaries, importing them in XML format and deleting them. Lexicographers can edit dictionaries in some XML editor and import them into Elex. Elex provides index container that looks very similar to Swing JList inside JScrollPane but in fact it loads only a small part of the index, caches it and displays only the visible amount of headers. This allows to smoothly handle even very large indices (1,000,000 headers) with no freezing effects or OutOfMemory exceptions. The backend layer which is represented by eXist and Hypersonic is 100% ready and only the GUI actions part is left to finish.
