My project is finding the optimal location of capacitor in a33 bus system test using opendss and matlab. I already coded the optimization algorithm in matlab but I have a problem in implementing or coding my load model. My load model is a stepwise load duration curve (3 levels- peak, medium, off peak) that will be evaluated in 1 year. How will I do it? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR UR HELP ^^

I would start with the Off Peak load level and use the AutoAdd feature in OpenDSS to add capacitors in about 600 kvar units. These would be the fixed banks. Then I would continue with the Medium load level.

I would not do the Peak load level. Capacitors added at this level would only come on 1 or 2 days per year. I would probably do about 90% load level. Sometimes 95% Peak if that represents a significant number of hours. If you have an hourly loadshape, look at it in Excel or MATLAB Plot and try to estimate what loading level you would have the capacitor energized about 100 hours at least. Otherwise, they will not pay for themselves in most cases.

Thank you for your reply, Mr. Dugan! will try to do that.

I actually have results already but using matlab only, I used backward forward load flow in Matlab. Until now I have a hard time incorporating OpenDSS with matlab. :( Will try to read and watch more examples.

May I also know if you have a data for 10-bus system? For my project I am using 2 test system. Thank you again!

I do not know a 10-bus test system. What is the reference for that?
