Hm... One thing that can help you in case of slot order changing would be using the slot label instead of slot number when creating a crypto token. This is something that was in particular introduced when we discovered (the hard way) that nCipher HSM does not guarantee slot ordering, and that it probably depends on order the HSM (encrypted) key material is read from the disk.
