Most people do not modify EJBCA but rather build separate applications that through
interfaces like Web Services interact EJBCA.

Creating code that directly interfaces to the EJBCA requires a rather detailed look into
the internal EJBCA code to be useful.

I'm personally building extensions that appear as new web-apps in EJBCA
using the "plugin" interface. In EJBCA/src/samples/plugins you
find running examples to try.
