Hi everyone

 I am the only one experiencing troubles with ESDL an Eiffel 56 ? I was 
happy enough that this release *finally* runned under my Linux flavour, 
I had to dechant when I realised ESDL examples were not working ...

basically the troubles are :

+ REFACTORING_HELPER class moved in its own cluster, it seems
+ some classes (POINTER or POINTER_REF, can't remember) were made 
expanded, therefore a awful lot of /= Void tests are now just pointless 
... and won't compile at all !

Any insight on this ?

please use ESDL_ORTHOGONAL_RECTANGLE - I renamed it to conform to the
naming styleguides.

A couple, let me give it a shot (;

SDL_HEADER is not used on operating systems other than windows, there we
use the output of 'sdl-config --cflags'.
Can you check and see if this tool is in you path resp. gives sensible
output? (It should, however I suspect you are on one of those whitish
machines of which I know close to nothing :). Also please try to run
'geant' with the '-v' parameter ('geant -v install'). This will give you
a much more detailed output and it might help us diagnose the problem.

Hello all:
    I am having an issue with compiling the CVS version of Eiffel SDL.  
It appears that it cannot find the SDL headers, though SDL_HEADER is set.

    Here is the output of trying geant install:

joseph@slinky:~/local/esdl$ geant install
Generating wrappers for esdl
/home/joseph/local/esdl/library/c_glue_code/esdl.h:4:17: SDL.h: No such
file or directory
/home/joseph/local/esdl/library/c_glue_code/esdl.h:5:23: SDL_image.h: No
such file or directory

BUILD FAILED!

For my system variables:
ESDL=/home/joseph/local/esdl
SDL_HEADER=/usr/include/SDL
EWG=/home/joseph/local/ewg
ISE_EIFFEL=/usr/local/Eiffel55/
ISE_PLATFORM=linux-glibc2.1

I believe that should be all of them.

Any ideas?

unfortunately yes for the moment. The bigest incompatibility we have at the
moment is the event_type class that we use to give the client an
eventloop...

yes there is one - smarteiffel - (http://smarteiffel.loria.fr/) - but as I
said we are not compatible with it.
If you want to try out the smarteiffel compiler I recommend you get the
Version 1.1 and not the recently released 2.0 beta.

The Eiffel language is currently in the process of being standardized and
the compiler incompatibilities should eventually disappear. In the meantime
you could get a trialversion of eiffelstudio for your platform and use that
to compile a few games...

I am happy to announce the release of ESDL 0.3.0!

ESDL wraps and extends the Simple DirectMedia Layer library. 
SDL - (http://www.libsdl.org) is very popular among Linux game developers.
SDL is a multimedia library composed of various subsystems for graphics, 
sound, networking, threading etc. The aim of ESDL is to provide the Eiffel 
community with a wrapper of SDL that has an easy to understand API.
ESDL is being developed subsystem by subsystem at the moment the 
project is pre 1.0.0 and implements only parts of the graphical subsystem,
an event loop, collision detection, bitmap fonts, a frame_counter and many
supporting casses that facilitate game, demo and multimedia application
development.
In the examples directory you will find demos illustrating most of ESDL's 
current API.

Changes since 0.2.0:

	* Added support for borland compiler.
	* Gobification of project layout.
	* Gobification of project build process.
	* created installers for windows
