Just thought you'd like to know that this fix worked for me: https://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=454914 Once I replaced the file, it appears to be running fine. -- Chris Berry chr...@jm... Hi David, When you select a tradable you have to press enter on it, once you do that it will load with that tradable. I understand this is probably not very intuitive and we will work to fix it in future versions. You can then select the indicators from the indicator icon next to the tradeables. The reason it gives you that null pointer is probably because it is trying to redraw the tradable before it is loaded. Another bug we'll have to fix so thank you for that :) Let me know if it all works ok. Hello, I've just installed MAS on windows 2000 and it worked like a charm. The interface needs a little work (imo) but testing went well. I plan to use the software to chart futures and have a server setup with daily data and rolling contracts. I will be testing and taking notes over the next few weeks. Anyone interesed in futures on the list? ~jb |

Hi, I found your chartsoftware for linux and have a questions about it: - is it possible to fill the data in realtime? e.g. with TWS from IB (Interactive Brokers)? Or is there any other alternative to get realtime charts for emini futures (CME/Globex) like ES, NQ, ER2? Thanks a lot. I'd really want to see a realtime-chartsoftware which runs under linux! Oops! I was cleaning out my mail directory and responding to some old emails and accidentally hit 'R' instead of 'r' and didn't notice until it was too late that I was also sending this to mas-discuss. Did you ever get MAS working for you on XP? If not and you're still interested in trying I think you'll find that installing Service Pack 2 for XP will allow you to install and run MAS successfully. I'm interested to hear back from you even if it's just to say: "Nope - I'm no longer interested in using MAS." Thanks! Jim Cochrane |

I just saw this announcement today: http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/01-31-2005/0002939107&EDATE= and it got me thinking about how MAS might fit well into a home entertainment system. I can imagine, for example, a person watching a movie and, taking advantage TiVo's ability to record a movie in progress for delayed viewing, taking a break, checking out the stocks on his watch list, and, if he sees the opportunity, making some trades, then going back to enjoy his movie. Does anyone have any thoughts on how MAS would fit into a setup like this - Would people find it useful to be able to view their charts and do analysis using their TV set instead of or in addition to their computer? Can you envision yourself doing this someday? Can you think of advantages and/or disadvantages to having this functionality available? Etc. Thanks. Jim |

I've recently added "bookmark" functionality to the client based upon the 1.6.5 version (GUI1) of the code downloaded from sourceforge. This enables one to "bookmark" commonly used charts and pull them back up at a later time. If this is potential value to anyone other than me I would like to share my effort. Let me know if there is interest. - Dave |

All - Sorry for the interruption, but I've not been able to contact Cedrick Johnson, Stephen Osborn, or Paul Tazzyman (all of whom, I believe, are or used to be subscribers to this list). My email to Cedrick bounced with a fatal error. If any of you guys get this email, I'd appreciate it if you could get in touch with me, even if it's to let me know you're no longer interested in what we were working on before. And if anyone else knows any of these fellows or how to get in contact with them, I'd appreciate it if you would contact me or let them know I'm trying to reach them. Thanks. All - I'd like to invite those of you who are interested in trying out cutting-edge versions of mas (not released at sourceforge). You'll have access to newly added features, and in return we would like some feedback to help us determine what other features are needed, how existing features could be improved, etc. If you're interested, please send me an email - jt...@di... and we can discuss the details. Thanks. Jim |

I had problems with 1.6.6q on XP Professional but upgraded to XP Pro with SP2 and it cured it fine. I'm having some issues with web connection but the server and client programs load fine and work with file data Best wishes Tim Considine > -----Original Message----- > From: eif...@li... > [mailto:eif...@li...] On > Behalf Of Jim Cochrane > Sent: 08 December 2004 13:26 > To: eif...@li... > Subject: [MAS-discuss] Request for feedback re. 1.6.6q on XP with SP2 > So I'd like to request of those 2 to 7 people that you let me know the > following: > > Whether you've tried running 1.6.6q with Service Pack 2 > installed and whether MAS ran successfully for you. |

To all Windows XP users on the list - I don't know how many of you use XP, but since Windows is so popular, I would guess that out of the 50 or so people who subscribe to this list, at least 5 (and I'd bet it's more likely at least 10) of you use XP. Of those, I would guess that from 2 to 7 people have tried MAS 1.6.6q on your XP machine. So I'd like to request of those 2 to 7 people that you let me know the following: Whether you've tried running 1.6.6q with Service Pack 2 installed and whether MAS ran successfully for you. If you don't have SP2 - whether you've gotten 1.6.6q to run successfully. And if you do install SP2 in the future, I'd appreciate it if you would let me know if 1.6.6q runs successfully after installing SP2. You can either send your response to this list or to me at the return address of this email. (Sending to this list is preferred, since other XP users on the list will likely appreciate having this information.) The reason I'm making this request is that although I'm pretty sure that SP2 fixes the "access denied" problem that 99% of XP users appear to get with 1.6.6q on XP, I've only heard from two or three people that SP2 solves the problem. (I've not heard from anyone that SP2 does not solve the problem.) I'd like to get some more data on this so that I can more confidently state to future users that SP2 will solve the problem (or not, if it doesn't). [In other words, if you respond, you are helping future XP users. :-)] Thanks very much! Jim Cochrane |

For those using Windows XP who have run into the "access denied" problem described at: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=896272&group_id=6838&atid=106838 a fix has been found, which is simply to install Service Pack 2. |

Following last query, I am woindering how the yahoo post process works. Is it compiled in? Is it a script? I can retrieve data from a manual browser query, but it doesn't seem to "arrive" in MAS. I see that mas_httprc has a post-process, but I am not sure where this resides. Anthony, The start date is the date from which mas starts to do its analysis ie. from start date to last or current date. What to set it to depends on what you are doing:- when backtesting set it as long as possible, when doing a daily analysis I set it to the date prior to the longest MA or other multi-day indicator I use. I think this may not really be necessary and it could be set to 1 day - so long as you have the data to support your indicators. Maybe when I stop making money I'll try it ;-) Note that it can also be set to a number of days instead of an absolute date - this helps if you start mas from a command file ( -f option ) Regards, Paul --- eif...@li... wrote: > Send Eiffel-mas-discuss mailing list submissions to > eif...@li... > > To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/eiffel-mas-discuss > or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to > eif...@li... > > You can reach the person managing the list at > eif...@li... > > When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific > than "Re: Contents of Eiffel-mas-discuss digest..." > > > Today's Topics: > > 1. new user query (ab...@me...) > > --__--__-- > > Message: 1 > Date: Sun, 03 Oct 2004 23:57:36 +1000 > From: "ab...@me..." <ab...@me...> > To: eif...@li... > Subject: [MAS-discuss] new user query > > Hi, > > I have a question regarding MAS and its usage which I hope someone > can > assist with. You'll need to make the appropriate adjustments (e.g., modifying script files) to accomodate that. For example, java -cp ./mascharts.jar .... run in the directory where mascharts.jar lives should start the gui. I've responded re. this issue one or two times before. Hopefully one of those responses was posted to the mas-discuss list. Try a search on the sf lists page to see if you can find it - I probably included a little more detail there. (BTW, "jar vft mascharts.jar" will list the contents of mascharts.jar) [I can provide paid support if you need further help with this; but you might try asking here again first in case someone else is able to help; And for java-related questions, comp.lang.java.help is probably a good place to start.] Good luck! Hi Paul - Thanks for the feedback. > Jim, > > I don't really need the new operators yet - but it is good to see that > the range of functions is getting better. > > I do notice that currently, all the MA indicators work on weekly > values. I currently use some short term MA analysis based on 50, 15 > and 5 day MAs - I currently do this analysis outside mas but it would > be handy to have the data typs ( daily, weekly ) and length selectable > as with most ( many ) of the other operators. I think I need some clarification here. When you say: "all the MA indicators work on weekly values.", are you referring to this in the context of market analyzers - trading signal generation, or do you simply mean technical indicators by themselves? (All TA indicators can be applied to daily, weekly, hourly, or any time-period type, so I'm guessing you are referring to the former.) And when you say: "it would be handy to have the data typs ( daily, weekly ) and length selectable as with most ( many ) of the other operators.", I'm finding it hard to interpret this due to lack of context. Can you elaborate in more detail what you want to do and/or give a concrete example illustrating the problem? (An example would be particularly illuminating.) Thanks. Jim, I don't really need the new operators yet - but it is good to see that the range of functions is getting better. I do notice that currently, all the MA indicators work on weekly values. I currently use some short term MA analysis based on 50, 15 and 5 day MAs - I currently do this analysis outside mas but it would be handy to have the data typs ( daily, weekly ) and length selectable as with most ( many ) of the other operators.
