Almost the same as reported on
    http://www.serkey.com/ubuntu-efax-gtk-difficulties-in-receiving-faxes-bdhggd.html
    http://www.serkey.com/ubuntu-efax-gtk-configuration-can-t-receive-faxes-bexw6q.html

I can send faxes, but cannot receive any -- I can't seem to figure out why when Efax is in standby mode and when the phone rings it does not answer the call so as to receive the fax.

I also notice that if i try to manually receive the call with the "Answer call" button it will errors out of it.

    The messages in the efax dialog read;

    efax-0.9a: 01:17:23 opened /dev/ttyS0
    efax-0.9a: 01:17:24 using MD56xx in class 1
    efax-0.9a: 01:17:25 waiting for activity

    Stopping send/receive session

    efax-0.9a: 01:18:13 opened /dev/ttyS0
    efax-0.9a: 01:18:14 using MD56xx in class 1
efax-0.9a: 01:18:14 Error: unable to answer call
    efax-0.9a: 01:18:15 finished - invalid modem response

This is the latest efax-gtk (3.2.8-2) under Ubuntu 13.10, using an external modem (not a winmodem). The modem is Prime Peripherals 56k V.90 External Serial Data Fax Modem
    http://www.telecommander.com/pics/links/modems/primepheripherals56kextserrt/primepheripherals56kextserrt.htm

Everything is taking the default setting except my phone# and ttyS0.

    Please help.
    Thanks

You seem to have set up things correctly. About the best I can suggest is that you try adjusting the initialization parameters for that modem.

On a supplementary point, you might want to check that that modem's auto-answering facilities aren't interfering with fax reception. Try switching them off.
