Hey Ray, can you find a features list for Aleph One? I'm referring most specifically to the renderer, I want to know what it's capabilities are before i go doing porting work. Thanks -Jin |

OK, first things first: I don't have a computer to develop on. That aside, here's some status updates: -I am using a lot of code bases; EDGE, Aleph One, basically anything useful that's not ZDoom (again, the whole thing about the dubious legality of ZDoom); I hope to reverse-engineer ZDoom compatability, as despite its legal status, ZDoom has good features for mapping. -My trademark philosophy of 'hardcore minimalism' will be followed in development; it will not be the Swiss Army Cudgel of Doom ports, but rather a subtle Swiss Army Knife. I will move a *lot* of the hardcoded functionality into plain-text config files, as well. -The WAD format sucks. It's a kludge from over a decade ago. I'll keep backward compatability with it, but expect to see a move to a more modern format like ZIP or TAR (probably TAR since that's my background) where actual files are stored as game resources. This has the added benefit of compression. The map format will stay the same. Also, remember that the Win32 port is *not* my problem. I am glad to wash my hands of that, honestly, and without offence to Jin. :) --=20 -Ray (Our name is Legion, for we are many.) Note: I have manually set my From and Reply-To headers. I support the use of strong cryptography in e-mail. |

Hey, the 2 other people subscribed to this list. It's Ray, telling you all about how awesome edoom-devel is. edoom-devel is where it's at. edoom-support doesn't even exist yet, and edoom-releases will only get posts when there's a release, which I am admittedly taking forever on. Anyway, my point is, if you have anything at all to say about the development of EDoom, fire a mail off to edo...@li..., for great justice. -Ray |

Hey there, EDoom developers (or what passes for developers around here...)! Everyone seems to have forgotten these mailing lists, in fact I've actually forgotten the passwords to admin them *sigh*, but that's OK because I wrote them down...somewhere. Anyway, here is the status of EDoom development: -We are using the EDGE codebase. -NO ZDoom code, the official view of the project is that ZDoom is illegal. Any ZDoom features implemented must be reverse-engineered. -The man known as Jin, who is getting this email but is too lazy to register on Sourceforge, is in charge of Win32 porting. Good day and good luck, or whatever. -Ray |
