the first thing to do before implementing new things,
would be fixing the data-traffic between GUI and core, for core-versions
0.5x. At the moment the gui can only display the names of the download
but all other data exchange between core and gui has changed with the
new core versions. There are also some other guys who wanted to take a
look at the source code in this forum:

Perhaps the developers at the gtk-gui site could help you with stuff
that has changed since the old 0.4 versions (they can't code java they
say but they will know the data that is transfered between the two
apps.)
