Ashwini, interesting email. I'll make my observation below referring to points in = your email 1. Right. That, I think, is better explained in the Architecture section = that I've added to the new version of the Vision document. Pls Piotr, = can you add these new thing to the project site to better describe our = product? 2. Use case U1 (ref 2.23) states about the addition of a new document to = the repository (archives has been definitely substituted with repository = in every section of the document - read the new revision). The idea is = that administrator grants user/group access to a repository and = access/read/write permission to the folders of that repository for the = user/group that can access that repository . This can be done during the = group definition/update process or during the document repository update = definition process. I've not considered the idea to give also = permissions to single files but it's a good idea. 3. Right. The eDocs administrator can do that. Another idea that we can = implement could be to have a sort of "group's administrator" that can = assign grants to the users that are parts of hisgroup. This could be = useful to delegate some system administration tasks to a sort of = reference person in the department. For example the project manager in a = certain project has been granted to assign permission to all and only = his project team members because they are all part of an eDocs group for = wich he has been elected by the eDocs administrator to be the group = administrator. 3a. The "native" integration with the Microsoft system will be done = using Web Services technology. The idea is to build a plug-in that can = be used in the system from an appropriate menu. So during the design of = the objects that will take data back and forth from the system = repository we need to think about writing a generic interface that will = be implemented by two classes. The first will deal with the web UI stuff = and the second with web services for integration with the MS platform. = In our team Anton der Welt is our Microsoft platform expert and he'll = investigate, design and implement everything needed to have that = integration working on MS side. In any case it could be also interesting = the idea to have an integration with windows explorer that let the = document management system be seen like a shared drive. Anton can you = investigate more about the possibility to do that? 4. Agree. You forget Reader and now, if we consider to implement the new = vision at point 3, we have also a Group Administrator 5. The access methods to the eDocs systems are by using the web = interface or using the direct integration with MS Office (we hope it = will be possible to do also Windows Explorer integration). Apart from = the method we'll use to physically access documents a search methodology = is an interesting and open issue that need cleared. Can you investigate = about that write a document with your own proposal about that and share = it with the team?=20 Regards Sergio ----- Original Message -----=20 From: Ashwini Kumar=20 To: edo...@li...=20 Sent: Thursday, September 26, 2002 12:41 AM Subject: [Edocs-development] First pass Hello all,=20 I finally got to read the full document. Team, These are some action I've assigned to someone of you Ashwini is in charge of the analysis of an intelligent document search engine. He's responsible for giving us a document with a requirement analysis about an "aggressive" search engine. Anton, you're in charge of investigating about the feasability of a possible integration with Windows Explorer (office integration is more easier so we'll look for it later) to let the document repository be seen like an external shared drive that I can easily map (We can use some wizards or something like that to map it). Remember that the integration with eDocs has to be done through web services. Things that need to be done and looks for volunteers The product requires the design of a workflow engine to coordinate and manage all the phases of the publishing process. Who would like to take in charge the requirement analisys for that engine and make some suggestions? It's time to begin to detail some use cases. I'm starting to do that but if someone would help me let me know. Piotr we'll be the lead of all the activities related to web design and development. We'll find someone else to help him as soon as we'll start to develop the system. Regards Sergio |

Piotr do you think it would be possible to put a pdf of the latest version of the Vision document on the project web site to let everyone be able to download it? Also can we add to the site a section where we can put the latest architecture chapter? Thanks Regards Sergio |
