    Hi,

I managed to come up with fixes to use eCoder in modern PC browsers like IE 9, Safari 5 & Chrome 10.

Bugs are not properly in eCoder but in editArea which is used for the editing area and the syntax highlighting.

Just download this ZIP file: http://www.crealya.fr/ecoder-0.4.9-fixes.zip and replace the two javascript files in your eCoder ".\plug\editarea\" directory with the ones included in this ZIP file.

great - I'll try to find some time to take a look a this patch and if all good add it into the main ecoder release.

did you also send these to the editarea team?

    thanks!

    Hi Tristan,

I'm testing your patch as we speak. Seems to be running smoothly.

@Murray, yes, he submitted them to the editArea team (https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=3293377&group_id=164008&atid=829999). To be honest, I'm not expecting much reaction from their side, though.

    Thanks Tristan!

Still very broken in IE9.  When switching to "basic editor" IE9 will begin to highlight every line slowly, and then cursor repositioning will break.  Seems OK in firefox, did not test other browsers.

    Hi,

Thanks for mentioning. We will look into the issue. Over the next few weeks we're also going to try to look into a possible change of editor, as editarea is getting a bit outdated. More on that later.

    Hi,

Over the next few weeks I will be designing my own editor (it is for work, I am a senior developer for a hosting company).  Sadly after going over the code, I've determined that eCoder can't work in our environment as the communication with the backend can't be done via the filesystem in our setup.

I wanted to ask though, have you considered using http://codemirror.net instead of editArea?  I've been using it with my own project and I have to say it's an amazing piece of work.  It doesn't come out of the box with everything prebuilt (I had to implement tabs, save states, etc) but it is stupidly fast and works really well for on-the-fly highlighting.  It also has a relatively easy way to add new highlighting rules.  I think you'd really like what it brought to the project.

Best of luck with the project guys, I'll definitely poke my head in from time to time to see how things are shaping up.

    Hi kuzb,

Codemirror 2 is currently on top of our list and over the following days I will start to test how well we can integrate it.

Codemirror is way faster then editarea, so it would be interesting if we could indeed use it.
