Problem when viewing with Firefox 2 on Linux

    Hi,

when trying to view the tutorials with Firefox 2 on openSuSE 10.3 x64, the videos do not play back. Instead of the video, there is just a white rectangle. Flash is installed correctly (Youtube etc. works), JavaScript is enabled. What else could be wrong?

    Regards,
    Patrick

Hi Patrick. I'm sorry you're having this problem. I have tested the videos with Firefox on Linux, and they worked for me. I know that other's have run the tutorials on Linux.

The only thing I can think of is that perhaps you have an older version of Flash installed. Have you tried going to the Adobe website and installing the latest Flash version? I think it's version 9. Let me know if that helps. Thanks. Mark

Actually, I installed Flash 9.0.115 which should be the newest version. What else could I try? The same files work just fine on Windows.

Have you tried opening the .SWF file directly (instead of the .HTML file)? This would eliminate any Javascript issues. Let me know. Thanks.

In the error console of Firefox, I found the following message:

" ':' expected, but 'undefined' found. Declaration ignored. "

The message is followed by a link to "lesson01.html".

Inside the browser you mean? Or by double-clicking?

I think you can just right-click the file and then open with Firefox (or any other application that can play a SWF file). Mark

If I open the .swf in Firefox, the intro screen flashes up, then I get a white screen.

gnash plays the sound but only shows the first image and this it does with weird colors. ;)

Try opening it with Firefox (right-click, open with, Firefox).

      Then, this happens:

"If I open the .swf in Firefox, the intro screen flashes up, then I get a white screen."

Is there a way to convert the .swf files to Xvid or something?

Hi Patrick. I'm very sorry you're having this problem. I really don't know what to tell you. Flash format is one of the most widely used formats on the web, and there is no easy way for me to convert this to some other format. Perhaps you could find a Linux or Firefox web forum to ask about this. I have a limited knowledge about this, and frankly I am stumped. Good luck. Mark
