I clearly remember when i naively typed the words "eclipse java tutorial" into a major search engine to get me started with this rather confusing (and yet great) IDE.
Not even in my dreams I would have thought to find a series of free video tutorials!
I've worked through all of them now and they've enabled me to handle eclipse, unit-testing and the debugger to my needs.
I like video tutorials in general, pausing/rewinding, working along with the tutorial, taking notes without hurrying…just great.
Even bought a bigger monitor to have eclipse and the tutorial opened side-by-side.
Mark, thank you so much for all of your time and effort you've put into creating these fine tutorials!
I've become a little lazy over the years, and they really helped me getting my a*s up again and learn something.
Looking forward to hearing from you someday,

Mark, these tutorials are very well done. It's really great to have Eclipse, Java and Test Driven Development all presented together with concrete, hands-on examples. So many tutorials are either way too slow and basic, or assume knowledge in other areas. Yours get to producing working code quickly, while still being basic enough for anybody to understand. And if there's something we want to learn more about, we can pause it and go to Google or Wikipedia.
Have you considered putting these up on iTunes? They would make excellent video podcasts. If it's a question of time or interest, please let me know if I can help. I'll be glad to take on such a project on your behalf.

Hi Gary. I don't know anything about putting them on iTunes, but if it would make them more available that would be great. Would you be willing to do this? If so, that would be fantastic. Thanks. Mark

I don't have much experience with it either, but since it's something I want to learn, I'll give it a try. I'll go ahead and do a "proof of concept" and then touch base with you before I do anything more. At some point I may want your original video files, if you have them in some format other than .swf. But for now, I'll see what I can do with what I have.

Mark, Thank you very much, an excellent series.
I am a beginner to Java, the series really helped me to start understanding the object oriented paradigm .
and gave me a great insight into Test Driven Development.
I have completed the MyLibrary project and I will be sure to follow the other two series. just as soon as I have digested the first one and had an opportunity to put what I have learned into practice.
Kind regards,
Sonny

Hi there!
I did (half of) the Total Beginners Tutorial, and though I'm not a total beginner to Java/Eclipse, it REALLY REALLY helped me with JUnit (to which I am a total beginner, but not anymore!). Finally I've understood what Test Driven Development is and how to do it myself. Thanks a lot!
Also, the Debugger Tutorial was VERY helpful, although I found it more difficult to follow, I guess the perspective is more confusing, so it's harder to keep an overview…
Anyway, thanks a lot! Wow, that must have been so much work to figure out. And I find that so many tutorials are badly done because as soon as someone is good enough to make a tutorial, he/she doesn't know anymore what real beginners really need! Not the case here.
Merci beaucoup,
zebu

Also from me a big, big thank for this tutorials. I was really a total eclipse and java beginner, but i was able to follow and implement all of your tutorials. now i have become a scjp student and i'm preparing for the certification.

You have obviously put a great deal of effort into these tutorials. They are extremely well put together and very user friendly. I come from a Visual Studio, VB.net background, and am blown away by the power of the Eclipse development environment.
Thank you very much indeed.

I'm a newbie in Java. You just opened me Java's door. It was a fantastic work and dedication what you did.
I just registered myself in this forum to thank you. If you keep on doing tutorials maybe GUI in Java would be nice!
Again, what you did was a lot. Thank you very much.

I'd also like to say thank you. I think with the recent advent of the Android OS and Google accepting Java as a viable development tool for its Android OS, Java is back in the main stream. This is the reason I initially went searching for how to learn Java. I'm using your videos to get a better understanding of Java and then plan on trying to adapt what I learn to a few small applications and then adapt those to Android. Thanks again!

Mark,
Your tutorial is great.
Thank you very much.
Mark,
I just finished the Eclipse and Java for Total Beginners tutorial. AWESOME! Must have been a lot of work to create.
I am quite new to Java and totally new to Eclipse. This tutorial really gave me insight into how to work with Eclipse.
Thanks a lot!

Mark,
These are easily the most useful tutorials I've come across - and lot more informative than Eclipse/Java Help and printed tutorials. Thanks a lot!
Are you planning on doing any more?
