The install will be fine (without any errors in the log file) - but the json editor doesn't appear anywhere (not as a view, not in 'open with' dialog and not in preferences) - only in 'installed software'.

I can select an existing .json file in Package explorer, then right-click to bring up a menu. One item in the menu is "Open With." JSON Editor is among the editors available for me. I am using Kepler Java EE and Eclipse JSON Editor 0.9.7.
You can create a .json file with just {} in it with any editor to begin with. Maybe there is an easier way (e.g., to invoke the editor from a New File menu), but at least you can test your installation this way.
