Greetings! I'm considering a significant project in OCaml (a compiler) and I would like to try using Eclipse as my development environment. Accordingly I looked around to see if there was an OCaml plugin for Eclipse and I found the EclipseFP project. The OCaml support in EclipseFP seems pretty rough but I feel interested in perhaps helping to improve it as I also work on my main project. Is there someone currently working on the OCaml side of EclipseFP? About me... my OCaml skills are "fair" and I've never programmed an Eclipse plugin before. I have used Eclipse, but not extensively. I'm definitely not an Eclipse expert. I am comfortable with Java and fluent with C and C++. My OCaml project is just a personal project with a primary goal of learning OCaml better. I'm open to learning other things too... such as Eclipse plugin development. I should also mention that I don't have a large amount of time so my contributions, if any, would be slow in coming in any case. Given my circumstances and background could I be a useful addition to your project? Thanks. Peter |

You are pretty much in the position I was when I joined the project about t= wo years ago. I was interested in developing Eclipse plug-ins and had some experience with compiler and programming languages.I can say with pretty much confidence that you'll be very welcome. Make sure to announce what you are thinking to work on using this list and people will be eager to give you some feedback. Patches should be submitted to me by e-mail or attached to a bug report on http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=3D108233 We are working on a tracker at http://www.haskell.org/eclipsefp but it isn't quite ready for receiving patches yet. It has a built-in wiki and some features for tracking proposed features, though. Feel free to use it too. Excellent, thank you! > Make sure to announce what you are thinking to work on using this list > and people will be eager to give you some feedback. Okay. I will probably first try making a trivial plug-in from scratch just to get some idea about how plug-ins work before looking at the EclipseFP code. As I said in my earlier note it will probably take me a while to get to this, but I will keep you posted. Thanks again. Peter |
