Hi, Long time no hear. ;) Leif, please consider releasing 0.2.4 as an official release. 0.2.0 sucks right now and cannot find out whether file is in repository or not, 0.2.4 doesn't have this flaw. Also 0.2.4 has some neat features that quite a few ppl would like to use (including me). Also, just for everyone: Eclipsedarcs 0.2.x is not compatible with darcs 1.0.7 on windows, use 1.0.8 from here. http://glozer.net/darcs/ . I've just lost two hours, debugging code to find that. ;) Thanks, Radek. |

It's even better, I have received a few small patches from a collegue of mine, I'll integrate these and then make it a 0.3 :-) I'm currently at EclipseCon, so I might have not too much time to do this, but I think I'll manage until the beginning of the next week. Thanks && ciao, Leif > > Also, just for everyone: Eclipsedarcs 0.2.x is not compatible with > darcs 1.0.7 on windows, use 1.0.8 from here. http://glozer.net/darcs/ > . I want to finish pulling (all) and pushing (all) functionality that I miss the most. Then in my priority list is "cherry-picking-recording" but this task may overwhelm me. This leads to my question, what are the patches you have from your collegue about? Thanks, Radek. |

They were just some small bugfixes. I've just pushed them :-) About the cherry-pick-recording: I've had a few ideas about this lately, but to write the testing code is a bit of work, and I haven't had much time in the past months. But I agree that this is one of the most important things that need to be addressed. Btw, there may be another thing that could help us in the more long term: http://leiffrenzel.de/eclipse/cohatoe/ I'm working on integrating Haskell code more tightly in Eclipse, so that you can call stuff directly. This may even work with Darcs, so that we could be able to call Darcs directly for stuff. One problem of course is that there needs to be more of a structured Darcs API (and preferably under a more friendly license than the GPL is). I think that might get interesting one day. Cheery picking is why I love darcs. > Btw, there may be another thing that could help us in the more long > term: http://leiffrenzel.de/eclipse/cohatoe/ I'm working on integrating > Haskell code more tightly in Eclipse, so that you can call stuff > directly. I would love to call darcs api directly instead of parsing what it spits on standard output but such a task will overwhelm me for sure. Mainly because I fail to switch my thinking to Haskell (in reallity I simply had not enough time to finish any tutorial ;) ) so I can't write any code (except quicksort ;) ). Cheers, Radek. P.S. Sorry for sending this mail to your private email box but gmail does it by default. |

I hope I can dedicate a bit more time to it in the next months. This is offtopic, but if you could share what is your exprience with darcs on your multi-user project? I am team leader in new project in company, where I work, and I would like to propose change in VCS (from SVN which sucks in branching and I do it a lot) but lately, I've heard very bad things about darcs and large projects/multi-programmer projects. All projects, where I used darcs are small, 1-2 commiters only. Thanks, Radek. |

Hi, > Sure :-) I've thought this might be of a more general interest, so I have > written it to my Blog at http://cohatoe.blogspot.com - any comments either > there or on this list are welcome. > > My experience in general is very positive. So what were the problems that > you heard of? Thank you very much for sharing this. My concerns comes mainly from from darcs mailing list. Like this: http://lists.osuosl.org/pipermail/darcs-users/2007-March/010871.html I myself have exprienced problems with medium to large repositories (up to 40 MB). Resources went dry on my server box while doing INITIAL record of whole content. I know that David Roundy is working on issue with conflicts but I did not hear much progress about that. Also Windows support is kinda messy with darcs and unfortunatly company I work for did a switch in its profile and now we are doing windows software (I really regret this decision). Thanks again for sharing this, Radek. |

Hi, > But in general, I'd say that Darcs is quite well suited for use. (And we > should keep in mind that there are problems with CVS or SVN or whatever > other systems, too :-) My main motivation behind switching VCS from SVN to Darcs is branching. We have quite complicated work model. There are two teams that does a work on one code base which are branched and synchronized once in a while. Also there is "production" branch. Now, merging changes between teams and then uploading selected patches to the production code with SVN is NIGHTMARE. No help from the system whatsoever. Also this repository is pretty large. Either we switch VCS or work model. Thanks again, Radek. |
