Hi all, The latest version of EClass.Builder is available for download at: http://www.eclass.net/Downloads/eclass-builder-2.5.4.10.exe It fixes the following issues: - File names can now no longer be more than 31 characters in order to=20 resolve bugs with pages not getting created. Also, now when you create=20= a new page, if you don't specify your own filename, EClass dynamically=20= updates the filename to match the page name, up to the aforementioned=20 31 characters. You will see what I mean when you change the page name.=20= ;-) - "Import File" should now be working properly. - EClass now is more intelligent about page selection. When no page is=20= selected in the editor window, the Page menu becomes inaccessible and=20 page-related toolbar icons gray out. It also auto-selects the top page=20= when you open a new EClass. - Presentations and search results should now open in new windows. If I don't hear of bugs in this version from BJ or anyone else in the=20 next couple days, I'll add it to the EClass download page and I'll add=20= a "Current Issues" note to inform people about potential issues with=20 the EClass server when run from the hard drive. Hopefully Thanks, Kevin On Apr 27, 2004, at 4:33 AM, BJ Cameron wrote: > Hi Kevino > =A0 > <<snip>> > > How things are done is that the "Project Name" in the Open Project > > dialog is actually the folder name in the EClass Projects folder.=20 > They > > get out of sync when one changes the "Course Name" in EClass,=20 > because I > > do not automatically rename the folder as well. Hi Kevino, Bug: 1. I am not able to create a new course in the newest version of EClass. I have tried going through the opening window and the file menu, I get the "New Project Window", I type in a name, and Click "ok" and nothing happens. Tried this both on a win98 and 2K machine. 2. Import file still can't use htm/html, but at least we are not losing the "Page". All other files seem to be working fine in file import. 3. We still have a problem when adding a new page when opening a course. I see that you have made the "course page" the "selected" gray item. The problem is when you add a new page, in the outline, it adds it as an item to the course level. However, when published or when the course is re-opened it is actually a child of the last item. Try it and you will see what I mean. You can also "acheive" the gray selection by clicking on the course preview, this causes even more problems. Check out what happened to my course page: http://payson.tulane.edu/staff/bjcameron/demo025b4-10/ Not sure what is going, I will play more with it and see if I can get you a more detailed explanation. Hi BJ, Am currently working on fixing some more developer-related issues with=20= EClass. Over the past 8-12 months, EClass has started incorporating=20 more and more functionality, some from 3rd parties, and I need to make=20= this a bit easier to manage so that Linux users particularly can build=20= EClass without too much trouble. It will also make it easier for me to=20= manage, and help me to put Mac support back on the map again. ;-) This=20= will take a couple days, probably finishing around Wednesday-Thursday.=20= At that point, I will come back to these issues. I plan on having a new=20= release ready for Friday. I want to get this release solid so that I=20 can start promoting it, and it's important that Linux has some basic=20 support at least, because it's likely that any volunteers to help will=20= come from that platform. And, BTW, nothing is too picky. It is always just the tradeoff between=20= how much work it will be to fix and how serious the problem is.=20 Particularly if I know what the problem is and the fix is relatively=20 quick, I can (and will) take care of it right away. =46rom your issues=20= below, the only one that may need some work to fix is the Real Media=20 bug. I have a feeling it is related to the "media controller" property=20= that RM has. These need to be the same between video and audio so that=20= they are "synched", but when there is a separate audio file, there=20 needs to be a "separate" audio controller. So that means having EClass=20= determine if the audio belongs to a video, or is separate. Anyways, I should have everything ready in the next few days. Thanks=20 again for all your help! =3D) Thanks, Kevin On May 3, 2004, at 10:28 AM, BJ Cameron wrote: > Hi Kevino, > =A0 > Media Bug: > > If you have a RealMedia video clip and a RealMedia audio clip in the=20= > page editor, you get two sets of controls (like you would expect) in=20= > the page.=A0However, they both play the=A0same media clip and the = other=20 > gets lost. Hi Kevino, I have spent several days with the latest version (2-5-4-15) and have found very little in the way of bugs. Problems: 1. One problem I have seen so far was in the "page editor", in the "text" window, you have doc and rtf listed as options, while in reality you can't use them. I understand this is to be impleted in the future with OO support. However, until that happens, I would remove them to avoid confusion. IMHO 2. "Publish to web" doesn't seem to be working. I get a message saying "finished uploading", but when I check the server nothing is there. I assume the entire directory would be uploaded. 3. Not sure why you would want to, but you can't use an html file for file import. The page comes up blank. The funny thing is you can double click on it in the TOC and it opens in the web page editor. 4. After I imported a pdf file, I get an additional child with no name and no properties when I preview the course. I will need to play with this one some more as I am having problems replicating it. Kudos: 1. Nice to see that you got the Real Video and Read Audio working on the same page. 2. Great to see the PDF support is back up and running 3. The Search.py is working again in XP. Tomorrow, I will test it on a Win2k machine, but I think we are getting close. BJ |

Hi Kevino, I think I have tried every possible combination (incl passive ftp) to get files uploaded using the EClass Builder, so far without any luck If I try to upload to a specific folder, http://payson.tulane.edu/staff/bjcameron/screencapture.jpg I get the following error message. http://payson.tulane.edu/staff/bjcameron/error12.jpg. Still no files on the server. Question--Do you get a warning message if you are writing over files? Cancelled quiz output. http://payson.tulane.edu/staff/bjcameron/demo-2-5-4-15g/ This error/problem seems to happen the first time you use EClass after a re-boot. This was the first quiz created in that eclass and the first page (not = including the inital course page, which was an eclass page). I am having = a real hard time replicating this problem. I don't think so, as I also use a Linksys router and can't connect via=20= passive FTP, but am able to FTP fine otherwise. Let me see your error=20 log after trying without passive FTP on. Whenever you see that "Server=20= has unexpectedly closed the connection" error message, it writes a=20 description of the error to the error log. You shouldn't be getting the=20= same error as you received with passive FTP if you are able to connect=20= with other FTP clients. Thanks, Kevin |

I wiped the errlog.txt file and tried uploading with passive FTP unchecked. Errlog: http://payson.tulane.edu/staff/bjcameron/errlog7.txt Two other things: (working with 2.5.4.15) I have noticed if you have a bookmark and a hotword with the same text, you often get part of the tag appearing in the EClass page. Is there anyway to get EClass to ignore text inside of the tag <markers>? Suggestion: Using the "Default (no frames)" theme, I like the EClass branding and I think we should do it for the "Default (frames)" theme, too. I suggest you have the "Built with EClass" link to open in a new window. BJ |

There was a bug when you don't specify the "/" at the beginning of the directory name. EClass needed to add it but it wasn't doing that. So I think I've got this one fixed. =) > > Two other things: > > (working with 2.5.4.15) > > I have noticed if you have a bookmark and a hotword with the same > text, you > often get part of the tag appearing in the EClass page. I'll track it down... ;-( > Suggestion: > Using the "Default (no frames)" theme, I like the EClass branding and I > think we should do it for the "Default (frames)" theme, too. I'll add it and once I've resolved the hotword issue, I'll release a new version, which hopefully should be the final release in the 2.5.4 series! Thanks, Kevin |
