NextApp, Inc. is pleased to announce the first public preview of the Echo Web Application Framework. Echo is an open-source framework for building Web-based user-interfaces to J2EE applications using an event-driven, object-oriented API. Echo removes the developer from thinking in terms of "page-based" applications, instead enabling him/her to create Web-based interfaces using a methodology similar to that of Java Swing. The developer is allowed precise control of the client browser without the need for any HTML or JavaScript programming. The only server-side requirement is a Java Servlet 2.2 Container. Echo does not use any client-side plug-ins, Applets, or ActiveX controls: it works with any JavaScript1.3 capable browser such as Mozilla, Internet Explorer, or Netscape.... read more
