I have just compiled and installed xemacs on osx:
mac osx version : 10.4.2
xemacs version : 21.5.20
carbon version : beta 2 ( xemacs-21.5.20-carbon-b2.diff )
other patches : ( toolbar-tiger-fix.diff, select-carbon.c.diff )
sumo package : 2005-07-15
While most things work as well as expected or even better (many thanks
to Andrew Choi :-) I have encountered what I suspect to be a bug.
version of ecb (Emacs Code Browser) from the xemacs sumo package with
ecb-activate results in the following output:
Loading advice... done
Loading customization dependencies... done
Warning: Error in 'pre-gc-hook': (stack-overflow (Lisp nesting
The remainder of the warning extends beyond the edge of the minibuffer
and as the window freezes at this point it cannot be read. The cpu
usage is in the range 40 - 50%, though memory usage is static at
around 30Mb resident size and does not increase.
There are several posts on the net from late last year reporting
similar errors, albeit arising in unrelated contexts, in particular:
which suggests changes to the truncate-command-history-for-gc function
which I presume is registered with pre-gc-hook in cmdloop.el (forgive
me if I have this entirely wrong, I know nothing about xemacs and
slightly less about elisp ;-). I have applied the suggested diff and
recompiled but without effect.
P.S. As it is not clear whether the problem stems from xemacs or ecb,
I have also posted to the ecb list, apologies if you are on both lists
and have received this message twice.
