In the (FICS) seek panel there is a game type column getting values from the seeks like standard/crazyhouse/blitz/...=20 Am i correct that it can have only a fixed number of strings, so you can store them in a dictionary or something, and they can be translatable strin= gs, helping non english users? Hi, I commited this evening the dynamic loading of dgtnix in eboard via dlopen/dlclose/dlsym. This allows eboard to be compiled without any reference or dependance to dgtnix. Felipe, I have commented the parts relatives to dgtnix in the configure script, and removed the WITH_DGT_BOARD from the code. The behavior of eboard regarding dgtnix is now : + ./eboard gives classic eboard + ./eboard -dgtport <port> + if the libdgtnix.so is found in the LD_LIBRARY_PATH +the lib is loaded, version of the librairie is tested then try to connect to the port + if success a dgtnix/eboard session begins + else a warning message is shown in the eboard console + else an error message is shown in the eboard console Tell me what you think, Pierre |

Hi everybody, as usual, it's monday and a new version of eboard is out. Major changes from 1.0.2: * rewritten a lot of the text console code, now it should be faster, and the selection should be fixed (it was broken somewhere between 1.0.0 and 1.0.2) * added DGT board support through dgtnix * added joystick support (currently Linux-only, I'll make it work on *BSD along the next 2 weeks) enjoy, -- Felipe Full ChangeLog since 1.0.2: 1.0.3: * [all] eboard no longer writes the debug3.ppm file to the homedir (leftover debug code) (closes SF#1640523) * [all] make install now accepts DESTDIR (mostly for binary packagers) (closes SF#1640162) * [all] fixed console selections and treatment of UTF-8 content (closes SF#1633394). The console is also faster. * [all] safer string operations (SF#1639041, SF#1639841, SF#1640126) * [all] added joystick support under Linux * [fics] eboard now remembers the column and direction of sorting set for the Seek Table. (closes Feat.Req. SF#1112351) * [eng] Game->Resign should now work with any xboard-protocol engine. (applied patch SF#1637343) * [all] Added DGT board support through dgtnix (http://dgtnix.sf.net) |

Hi everybody, as expected, last week's load of bug fixes has been released as eboard 1.0.2. Someone has been very active in finding new bugs, so I wasn't able to start adding features as I expected. Hopefully on eboard 1.0.3 we'll have Pierre's DGT board support and some new stuff. The "best" bug fix in this release is that the 3D piece sets from extras pack 2 are working again. Downloads: http://eboard.sourceforge.net/download.html Changelog: http://eboard.sourceforge.net/ChangeLog This coming week I'll make some changes to the translation files and add some new strings, hopefully giving the translators something to do. meanwhile, three other things: 1) an eboard user started a Wikipedia entry about eboard: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eboard I am a somewhat regular Wikipedia contributor ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Fbergo ), but according to its rules, I should not write or edit pages about myself or my own works, and I won't. The eboard page has some typing errors. Feel free to fix and enhance it as you like. There's no need to make it long (see the wikipedia entry for xboard, for example). 2) Any OpenBSD / MacOS X users here ? How is eboard 1.0.x on OpenBSD and MacOS X ? Does it compile cleanly ? If not, why not ? Can you fix and send a patch ? Sourceforge's compile farm has been out for some time now, and I never managed to install OpenBSD in my machines (where do I get ISOs for it ? I'm used to installing/administrating FreeBSD, for the record - eboard is fine on FreeBSD 6.1). And I don't have a Mac to play with OS X. 3) I have added eboard to the gtkfiles.org site: http://www.gtkfiles.org/app.php/eboard It won't hurt to go there and give eboard a good rating. Best regards, -- Felipe |

All translators work by sending me the .po files by email. So far no one contributed enough code to justify being added as a developer to the project. One thing I am quite happy about the current state of eboard is that it is a stable FICS interface - it doesn't break or crash randomly and it is safe to use it as an interface for important games/tourneys. I fear that more people playing with the live code could break this. But those who want to work on the code can send patches normally. I've been almost 3 years away from eboard development and am still trying to keep up with everything that piled up on the sourceforge trackers, but I believe things will be "normal" again within a couple of months. I am still amazed that I remember how most of this code works... -- Felipe |

Hello, It is very nice to see a new version of eboard! Congratulations ! Just a question about the feature request : [ 1480968 ] Add support for the dgt board On the dgtnix subversion repository, there is an eboard directory which is a copy of eboard 0.9.5 with small changes to integrate dgtnix : 1) link to the librairie in the configure script (search for DGTNIX) 2) small modifications in main.cc (search for DGTNIX) 2) added "dgtnix_eboard.cc" and "dgtnix_eboard.h" files What is your opinion regarding this feature ? Best Regards, Pierre http://dgtnix.sourceforge.net |

Of course you, but there is a large list of pending ones in the sourceforge tracker already. And since the translators are long gone (can't blame them), I am giving preference to changes that do not require the retranslation of user interface text. Things like new preference options are likely to be delayed a bit. -- Felipe |

eboard 1.0.1 is out, with a lot of bugfixes (I did quite a run through all bug tickets in sourceforge that were accumulating since 2003). Downloads: http://eboard.sourceforge.net/download.html Changelog: http://eboard.sourceforge.net/ChangeLog Until the end of January I'll be making weekly releases. For next monday, I expect to fix the slowness of the text console (reported by some users -- I myself couldn't reproduce it to the same degree), add ALSA support, fix the remaining bug tickets in the sourceforge tracker and, if time allows, implement some feature requests. Bugs come first, new features come later. -- Felipe |
