I couldn't start eboard, because eboard couldn't find
some fonts on my system. To make it work I had to
change the default fonts in the eboard.h file and
recompile. It would be helpful if there were a note
about this in the documentation, or better if eboard
would be less picky about fonts.

The rest works great, thank you for this excellent
chess interface!

Other people have already complained about this. The point
is: the fonts eboard requests are all part of the standard
XFree86 distribution, and it even tries to fall back to more
    standard fonts before crashing.
As long as you have both the 75 dpi and 100 dpi font
    packages installed, it should work.

All people who had this trouble were using the Debian
    distribution.

My current take on this is changing the error message asking
the user to install both 75 and 100 dpi font packs, restart
    X and retry.

Can you send me the output of the xlsfonts commands on your
system ? (e.g.: xlsfonts > myfonts , and send me the myfonts
    file). Please tell me also
what distribution you use (presuming it's Linux) and the
    version of XFree86 you use.
(either email me or attach the output of xlsfonts to the bug
tracking system, but if you post in the bug tracking system,
don't foret to check the upload checkbox, most people forget
to check the box and the upload doesn't happen)

got the 100dpi font list, will add some fallback options
from that list soon, it should fix the problem. Thanks for
    sending it.

More fallback fonts (from the 100 dpi set) have been added.
    The fix was
just committed to CVS, and will be in eboard 0.3.3, which
    I'll
release still today when I finish fixing a couple of other
    bugs.
