No, probably better to make another variable for
exactly that purpose:

   ebib-preload-bib-search-dirs

Regarding customization more generally, I prefer to use
'setq' rather than the 'Custom' interface.  Would it be
better to document the hand-coded equivalents for these
settings as well?  Just a thought though, I do not have
strong views on this.
