Having entered all the details required of a New
Connection, and clicking the "Finish" button, nothing
happens. "Finish" may be selected many times to no
avail. "Cancel" does work. The result is that no connect
can be made and the plug-in is unusable. This was
attempted on both Eclipse(2.0.1) and WSAD (with
underlying Eclipse 2.0.2.1).

I have the same problem with Eclipse 3.0 and MySQL 4.0.18.
