We had this problem too, php tried to allocate 570MB ^^,

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 16777216 bytes exhausted (tried to 
allocate 574239291 bytes) in /opt/animexx/html/global.inc on line 212

Unfortunately I'm not a sysadmin so I can't check if beta2 is working 
without the optimizer (now beta1 runs again)

Line 212 was an include_once, maybe this helps
