I'm using Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 and the latest e2fsprogs is 1.41.9. When I run 'sudo fsck.ext4 -nfv /dev/sda1' on my active OS partition I see errors. Knowing that I shouldn't attempt to fix a mounted partition I created a bootable flash drive with the release version of Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 which has an even earlier copy of e2fsprogs. I re-ran the command to check this partition and there were no errors found. I rebooted into my normal session and same errors are still present. I created a newer USB flashdrive with Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 which has a later e2fsprogs, I believe 1.41.11-1ubuntu2 and it didn't find any errors on this partition either. I am left to suspect that either these aren't real errors or there is a bug in 1.41.9 that I am effected by. What should I do? I hesitate to perform a dist upgrade if the file system is not sound.
