if you run mkfs.ext3 under a german local, you see:
mke2fs 1.41-WIP (27-Apr-2008)
root ist kein spezielles Block-Gerät.
Trotzdem fortsetzen? (y,n)

unfortunately, the prompt should read (j,n) for Ja/Nien since that is what actually gets compared against. typing 'y' results in an exit while typing 'j' makes it start running like normal.

    Oops. Thanks for pointing this out. I've forwarded this to the German translator (Philipp Thomas -- e-mail in de.po), and made the change in e2fsprogs's git repository, in the maint branch.
