Subject: [e1000:feature-requests] #12 SR-IOV support for PCIe MSI interrupt type

feature-requests:12 SR-IOV support for PCIe MSI interrupt type
Status: open Labels: igb igbvf 82576 SR-IOV MSI MSI-X Created: Tue Jun 12, 2012 11:54 AM UTC by Ole Isfort Last Updated: Tue Jun 12, 2012 11:54 AM UTC Owner: nobody
    Hello,
I noticed that the igb and igbvf drivers require the PCIe MSI-X interrupt type to support SR-IOV on Intel's 82576EB devices. This makes sense as with a lot Virtual Functions (VF) enabled, the device simply requires more interrupt vectors then MSI supports.
However, for research and development, especially in the embedded domain, it is sufficient to create just a few virtual functions and not all PCIe Controllers support MSI-X.
Would it be possible to add SR-IOV functionality for the MSI interrupt mode if the number of VF's requested is low enough to fit into MSI limitations?
    Thanks,
    Ole Isfort

    Hello,

MSI-X is a requirement by our hardware, so there's not a way to support this using MSI. Greg is our SR-IOV expert on this, if you require more information.

    Thanks,

SR-IOV requires MSI-X (at least in our hardware) so this issue will not be fixed. Closing.
