Eclipse 3.0.2
EPIC Perl Editor 0.1.2
Mac OS 10.3.7
--
made a simple syntax error defining a hash.
my $ds = { a => 'aa', ... };
curly braces instead of parens. Perl allowed this,
although I have no idea what it might mean ;-)

Using the debugger, variable parsing repeatedly
failed, with a dump of vars in the 'details' alert, but
the list of vars missing $ds.

I fixed the syntax error and saved. Code that
referred to $ds still failed. I quit Eclipse and
started again. Same problem.

At some point I also turned off 'build
automatically', then occasionally getting a build
dialog when running.

FIX
AFter some arbitrary code rearrangement, it began to
work. Not associated with the real fix, but some set of
arbitrary set of moving things in and out of blocks, etc.

Yes, this is mushy, but a real beginners mistake
making a problem that caused further progress to halt.
Caching?

More info - there was a list that was defined in the code
that was about 7k of text. I also shortened that list to one
line. That let the variables be seen in the Debugger,
although the error in parsing variables still occurred.

The bug cannot be reproduced based on its description and
refers to an old version of EPIC. Therefore, closing as 'Out
    of date'.
