Hi List, another point i have spent thinking some time on is aching me now to be published (especially after the comments by Doug <- nothing personal!): i playing around with the dynapi since i found the dynapi v1 by stan last year. i build a site on bats and their conservation (www.flaus-online.de) using some dynapi 1 code. i have also used dynapi 2 (2.5X and < 2.5) for some dhtml games at the kids section of flaus-online.de and my personal site (www.web-dizain.de - dhtml section). My point in the discussion of licensing and commercal widgets is: if one uses the dynapi for private use, it is free, as asked in the GPL license. if someone like dan is developping widgets, spending hours and days, and somen else is using them within the dynapi for a comemrcial product, why is he allowed to use them all for free? the later is earning real money (in my case about 50$ an hour). so all the widget developpers are the fools. why bother, charge the customer another 30$, cause we are talking about real projects, worth 1000 to 3000 $. Anyhow, my second intention was to talk about the problems Doug had with not tested dynapi. Only one thing - who is not testing his site offline before putting his files online? sorry, bugs are normal, there was never a dynapi version without them because they live in the code an dtry to hide from tests and pop up when you do not expect them (that is my view as a biologist). i will be the first paying money for using widgets derived by hard work from the standard examples! To Dan: Please find a way for paing easily. think about people from europe maybe even without credit cards! So, I did not want to stirr everything up again, but as an user interested in further developments of the dynapi i thought i have to say this! And now get Apple for sponsoring (<- related to my former thread) volker |
