Oh!!
I just realized that the good old <img> tag actually defaults to the
behavior that I want!
<img src="mypic.jpg" name="myimg">
<a href="javascript:document['myimg'].src='mynewpic.jpg'">change</a>

Clicking the link will do what I wanted...
But the many levels of abstraction in dynapi makes this behavior not
longer there.... how can I get it back??
