I put a demo site at http://dynapi.sourceforge.net/dynapi/ of the type of site we could use for the main page. This would allow the site to be a bit more dynamic and up to date. Looks mighty good. :o) I updated them yesterday. The old (not working files are still on the server though, so come in the front door: http://www.richardinfo.com/?menu=examples&node=7 Apart from that the ftp is better for cross browser testing, as my site doesn't support NS6 yet. The only problem is they're not keen on .zip files, and they change the file permissions on them. Why exactly have you given up on the modifier issue? I know NS/IE is possible, is it a Mac problem? No, I haven't given up on the modifier issue. In fact it's in the last = update (ccreation.2001.02.17). just have to bug-test and get it fixed = for NS6. Check out the exempelfiles I updated to the ftp-site, the CTRL = feature works in IE5 AND NS4.76 :) The alt key doesn't work in NS4 so I = didn't include it. BTW the layerpos I can't do anything about get NS6-compatible since it = depends totally upon the getWidth/getHeight (and getX/getY) of = dyndocument/dynlayer. Should be working when the rest of dynapi is = NS6-compatible though. As a comment on using the DynAPI as part of the demo site, I would suggest against it. As the central source of all info about the project we should take particular care that the site is usable by the widest possible audience that could wish to find out and contribute to the project. Utilising the DynAPI on the site - whilst tempting - would not help the projects exposure. Certain scenarios in particular spring to mind: 1) A client, journalist, boss, project-manager, or other non-tech but important person attempting to verify information from developers on DynAPI's suitability - whilst accessing using IE 4.0PC/Mac, NN 3, IE5Mac or NN6/Mozilla (depending on their level of tech expertise) would not be impressed, unless extensive work was taken to degrade the site gracefully. 3) Existing developers attempting to fix bugs in currently non or partially supported browser may be hampered. (A current problem for Mac users attempting to see self-executing examples at dynacore/richardinfo) 2) Potential developers of currently unsupported browsers, or with versions with specific bugs in (e.g. Konqueror, Opera, OmniWeb whatever) By all means we should have a fully impressive arsenal of examples as part of the site, but not integrated into its core as a info-based site. Tested the online version with: A-Z, 0-9, Shift, Ctrl, Option/Alt, Apple/Command, Enter, Arrow keys, Return, Tab, Space IE5Mac - all modifier keys and normal key codes return a value immediately, including the Apple key (code 91), Shift causes an Alert 'SHIFT!', Ctrl moves the layer. But the key codes for simultaneous keys only return the normal key value E.g. Alt and Y returns value for normal Y NN47Mac - all normal keys return a value immediately, but the modifier keys require a simultaneous normal key press to return a value: E.g. SHIFT and Y returns 'SHIFT!' and no key code Ctrl and Y moves the layer and return Y's normal key-code Alt and Y returns special char key code (180 rather than 121) Liam -- "Everything in moderation ... including moderation" pgp on request |

Thanx for the report Liam. I'm glad that it at least seems to be mostly = working as intended on Mac and nearly as good as on the PC in the both = major browsers. (if I didn't get you totally wrong that is ;) I dunno why I wasn't able to restrict what keys are releasing the alert = keycode message (it was meant ot only be triggered on char keys = keycodes) Now ALT isn't made to be recognized a modifier key because of its = lacking support in NS4.x (although a lot of articles suggests it to be = the most cross-platform/-browser key). Return/Enter maybe should've been a key property, but it seems too = hard/impossible to get it working as intended for all systems. Dunno if it's really to be considered a bug that modifier key + char key = returns values and actions like it does. I think with a better example = (and whose to blame but me :) where a event was actually assigned this = wouldn't be a problem, though I have a feeling the best thing is to not = use the modifier keys in combos, but rather as toggling between = different control modes. Thanks a lot for the test anyways :) =20 Next thing up to solve is NS6-compability - a hard bullet to avoid, = considering the vast and insuficient documentation on the issue (and how = far is dynapi supporting it in this state of development?). Here's a solution for NS6 getContentHeight/Width: get the dimensions of the inner child. Well, it works for DynLayers with only one child which is all that's needed for widgets such as Label. I also found it better on IE5. Maybe you could use it as a stop-gap (even call it DynLayer.prototype.getOnlyChildHeight/Width). Here's what I did with a version of Label I was working on: Label.prototype.getContentWidth=function(){ if(is.ie)return this.elm.children[0].clientWidth else if(is.ns4)return this.doc.width else if(is.ns5)return parseInt(getComputedStyle(this.elm.firstChild,0).getPropertyValue("width")) } Label.prototype.getContentHeight=function(){ if(is.ie)return this.elm.children[0].clientHeight else if(is.ns4)return this.doc.height else if(is.ns5)return parseInt(getComputedStyle(this.elm.firstChild,0).getPropertyValue("height")) } You can see it working with pre-precreate version of DynAPI on the demos at: http://www.montford.f2s.com/dynatrix_docs/tutorial/label.html Tested on ns4.7, ie5 and ns6 for Windows. I played briefly on ie4.5 for Mac and it seemed to size OK (although I noticed that the text selection didn't turn on and off). Dicon |

I tried this widget and noticed your border settings were ordered top, bottom, left, right. It seems every other dynapi widget used top, right, bottom, left. I personally find it helpful to have most widgets work the same way, otherwise liked the interface and documentation, along with the widget. wes Simon Dicon Montford wrote: > > Here's a solution for NS6 getContentHeight/Width: > get the dimensions of the inner child. > > Well, it works for DynLayers with only one child which is all > that's needed for widgets such as Label. > > I also found it better on IE5. > > Maybe you could use it as a stop-gap (even call it > DynLayer.prototype.getOnlyChildHeight/Width). > > Here's what I did with a version of Label I was working on: > > Label.prototype.getContentWidth=function(){ > if(is.ie)return this.elm.children[0].clientWidth > else if(is.ns4)return this.doc.width > else if(is.ns5)return > parseInt(getComputedStyle(this.elm.firstChild,0).getPropertyValue("width")) > } > Label.prototype.getContentHeight=function(){ > if(is.ie)return this.elm.children[0].clientHeight > else if(is.ns4)return this.doc.height > else if(is.ns5)return > parseInt(getComputedStyle(this.elm.firstChild,0).getPropertyValue("height")) > } > > You can see it working with pre-precreate version of DynAPI on the demos at: > > http://www.montford.f2s.com/dynatrix_docs/tutorial/label.html > > Tested on ns4.7, ie5 and ns6 for Windows. > > I played briefly on ie4.5 for Mac and it seemed to size OK (although I > noticed that the text selection > didn't turn on and off). > > Dicon > > _______________________________________________ > Dynapi-Dev mailing list > Dyn...@li... > http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/dynapi-dev |

This question regards only netscape 4 and the included html attachments are only meant for Netscape 4 browser viewing. The question is: why does using the "new Layer()" constructor work (l1.html) while using the LAYER tag not work (l2.html). Using the LAYER tag creates a second window while using the Layer constructor simply puts the layer in the existing window. I'm trying to understand why in dylayer.js the Layer constructor is used and not the LAYER tag. Thanks. Richard Emberson |

It's definitely a lot more dynamic on the database side, and a big improvement, but why not use some DynAPI code? wouldn't the main menu look good made with list.js? The opensource site I've always regarded as a nice example is www.php.net Richard. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robert Rainwater" <rra...@ya...> To: "DynAPI Development List" <dyn...@li...> Sent: Saturday, February 17, 2001 9:40 PM Subject: [Dynapi-Dev] Demo Site > > I put a demo site at http://dynapi.sourceforge.net/dynapi/ of the type > of site we could use for the main page. I didnt change the default template any. I was just trying to give everyone an idea. I welcome anyone to come up with the design. Since its template based anyway, it could easily be changed to use some DynAPI components. -- // Robert Rainwater On 2/17/2001, 5:02:04 PM EST, Richard wrote about "[Dynapi-Dev] Demo Site": > It's definitely a lot more dynamic on the database side, and a big > improvement, but why not use some DynAPI code? wouldn't the main menu look > good made with list.js? > The opensource site I've always regarded as a nice example is www.php.net > Richard. > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Robert Rainwater" <rra...@ya...> > To: "DynAPI Development List" <dyn...@li...> > Sent: Saturday, February 17, 2001 9:40 PM > Subject: [Dynapi-Dev] Demo Site >> >> I put a demo site at http://dynapi.sourceforge.net/dynapi/ of the type >> of site we could use for the main page.
