Hello Everyone, In the near future we are hoping to have the DynAPI upgraded to support new features and have a new look. If there's anyone who can help with graphics, suggestions, documentation, etc we would like to hear it. Thanks, -- Raymond Irving __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! I'm going to introduce a StyleManager in the next couple of days (hopefully). Which will include a few skinable widgets. The progress bar was to be one of them to which it will be possible to change the look-and-feel of widget. You could still go ahead and create the progress bar as a standard widget and we can then upgrade to to support the StyleManager. -- Raymond Irving --- Jesse Vitrone <je...@6t...> wrote: > Sounds good. > > Any guidelines to follow for making a widget? > > Jesse > > Raymond Irving wrote: > > >Also add: > > > >setValue() > >getValue() > >setRange(min, max) - sets min and max ranges for the > >progress bar (normally 0,100) > > > >-- > >Raymond Irving > > > >--- Jesse Vitrone <je...@6t...> > wrote: > > > > > >>This started on the help list, but I figure it's > >>better off on the dev > >>list now: > >> > >>I'm interested in making a progress bar, any rules > / > >>guidelines I should > >>follow? > >> > >>Any features I should think about? Hello Everyone, I've been doing some thinking and came up with a solution that I think is able to give us more speedy layers than what we currently have. The solution employs a StyleManager that will enable us to be able to change the look, feel and behavior of DynLayers and widgets. With this in mind I would like to make a proposal that we change the 7th argument in DynLayer to use the "style" argument instead of image. IMO background image in rarely used by developers and could be easily changed with the use of setBgImage or dictionary object ({}) in those rare cases. I think the "style" argument will be used much more frequently than bgimage. Possible usage of styles: // create a plain DynLayer var l = new DynLayer(null,0,0,10,10,null,'PlainLayer'); // creates an html container var l = new DynLayer('Hello',0,0,null,null,null,'HTMLLayer'); var l = new DynLayer(null,0,0,0,0,null,'CoverLayer'); The above layers will use customize code found in the Style object to improve the creation speed of the layers. What do you think? If it's a no, then I guess we'll just have to use setStyle() and keep the image argument. -- Raymond Irving __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! This started on the help list, but I figure it's better off on the dev list now: I'm interested in making a progress bar, any rules / guidelines I should follow? Any features I should think about? > Can anyone offer some help with this or post a message > to mozilla? I've sumbitted a bug report on http://bugzilla.mozilla.com about this error. I did a search on the bugzilla system and was unable to find the exact bug, although there are several similar 'Permission Denied' bugs listed. Hopefully, someone from Mozilla will get back to me on this. Jeremy Wanamaker |

Well I believe this to be a Mozilla 1.4 bug. You can also try dropping mozilla a line about this Here's how you can reproduce the error: <script> function scan(e,elm) { var r = e.relatedTarget; while(r && r.parentNode){ r = r.parentNode; // error occurs here //alert(r) } } </script> <div id="dv" style="position:absolute;left:100;top:100"> <form name="frm"> <input type="textbox" name="tbox" value="test..." onmouseover="scan(event, this)" onmouseout="scan(event, this)"> </form> </div> The problem was traced back to mouse_dom.js line 49-51 MouseEvent._getContainerLayerOf = function(element) { if (!element) return null; while (!element._dynobj && element.parentNode && element.parentNode!=element) { element = element.parentNode; } return element._dynobj; }; Can anyone offer some help with this or post a message to mozilla? -- Raymond Irving > Jeremy > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Raymond Irving" <xw...@ya...> > To: <dyn...@li...> > Cc: "Jeremy Wanamaker" <je...@ma...> > Sent: Monday, July 28, 2003 11:53 AM > Subject: Re: [Dynapi-Dev] memory leak > > > > Hi Jeremy, > > > > This should fix the error. I've solved the problem I posted earlier. I forgot to call the DynLayer prototype in my ImgButton prototype. The first two lines of the ImgButton function in my ModWindow widget should be: this.DynLayer=DynLayer; this.DynLayer(); This fixes the memory leak in Mozilla1.4/NS7.1, but IE 6 still leaks. It's less than before, but still there. I can live with it for now. Now if I could just fix that pesky permission denied error in Mozilla, I'd be happy. Thanks for your help Raymond. This did fix the error I was getting in IE, but there is still a memory leak. There is something funny about this widget. I was looking at it in the Mozilla DOM inspector and I noticed that there are multiple DynObjects with the same id. The ImgButton layer and it's children have the same id in both instances of ModWindow. I traced through the code, but couldn't figure out why this was happening. Maybe this has something to do with the error message. If anyone has a clue as to why this would happen, let me know. I'll keep looking at it. Hi Jeremy, This should fix the error. Make the change to the dynlayer_base.js file. p._destroyAllChildren = function() { for (var i=0;i<this.children.length;i++) { this.children[i]._destroy(); delete this.children[i]; } this.children.length=0; }; It's very strange I don't see a memory leak with the following examples: dynapi.api.dynlayer-destroy.html speedtest.dynlayer-deep_nest.html It seems that the ModWindow object is not doing something right. I don't understand why. Does anyone have any idea or solution? -- Raymond Irving --- Jeremy Wanamaker <je...@ma...> wrote: > I've attached a sample of my code which causes the > error for me in IE 6. You correct Daniel. This one is so strange. I made a change to the HTMLComponent.writeStyle() function that should fix this problem: The problem was with the \n at the end of the string. Very strange indeed. HTMLComponent.writeStyle = function(s){ // note: don't ever add \n to the end of the following strings or ns4 will choke! if(!s) return; var css ='<style><!-- '; for(var i in s) css +='.'+i+' {'+s[i]+';} '; css += ' --></style>'; document.write(css); }; Also note new writeStyle usage: HTMLComponent.writeStyle({StyleName:'Inline-Styles;'}) PS. Sometimes I really hate ns4 :) -- Raymond Irving --- Daniel Tiru <de...@ti...> wrote: > Hi again! > > After testing for about 4 hours i realised i would > try something else :) > > These lines in the htmlMenu code i commented away, > and guess what? I been working with DynAPI 3 for a couple of weeks now. Overall, I'm very impressed and optimistic about the future of DynAPI. I'm having trouble with (what I believe is) a memory leak in dynapi.js at line 106: f.onunload = function() { //alert('hi'); for (var i=0;i<o._unloadfn.length;i++) o._unloadfn[i](); if (o.document) { o.document._destroy(); o.document = null; } }; I'm working on a window widget with quite a few DynLayers and when unload event triggers, the document unloads before the above function is finished and I get the following error in IE6: Error:'this.children[...]' is null or not an object ...at which point I notice that my available system memory has been reduced by a couple hundred KBytes or so. I get the same error in Netscape 7.1, but I can get around it by changing the event listener from 'onunload' to 'onbeforeunload'. Alas, this does not fix the problem in IE. Has anyone else run into this problem? Are there any known workarounds? Thanks in advance for you help and keep up the good work. Jeremy Wanamaker |

Hello, Sent in the fix for the dynapi3x/src/gui/graphics.js file (missing right curly brace '}' on line 223, thanks to Andrew Gillett for pointing it out. Since two people noticed this error this week, I figured I'd take the chance to wrestle with CVS once again. After trying to get either WinCVS or TortiseCVS (cool logo :) to work, finally Toritse was able to do the job for me. Maybe I can get WinCVS to work also. Couldn't get my keys working, but typing my password each time is preferable to not being able to commit changes. If there's any particular preferred policy or procedure about commits, please let me know. This current update seemed urgent and simple to fix so I went ahead and did it. Leif |

I think it works now...i have no idee why or what they actually do. but now they are taken away from my code and works very fine :) // Write Style to browser //HTMLComponent.writeStyle({ // HCMNU: '{border: 1px solid #003366}', // HCMNUItm: '{border: 1px solid #002851}', // HCMNUItmText: '{cursor: default; text-decoration: none; color: #FFFFFF; font: 12px Arial, Helvetica }' //}); Best Regards Daniel > Hi! > > I have a problem with the HTML meny in NS 4. > > If you see the example file i never call any meny functions even thought i have it included. > > If you open the file in ns 4 (i am using 4.7) you will mostly not get the alert('hoho') to work. Hi! I have a problem with the HTML meny in NS 4. If you see the example file i never call any meny functions even thought i have it included. If you open the file in ns 4 (i am using 4.7) you will mostly not get the alert('hoho') to work. But sometimes you will. I have put 200 lines of a var: test = 1hohohoho; just for getting this error, it works fine if your script isnt long. I get the error: unterminated string literal. var test='133Ho But as the lines range from 1 to 200 and the lines is exaclty thesame, the error should not ever happen. I have put everything in a init now but its thesame as without it. You will probably get some cache problems in ns 4 so be sure to check the source (even if its not there once in a while... after commenting the htmlMenu) If you comment away the htmlMenu include it will start to work again. Could you pleas look at this asap? As i really really really need to get it to work. Best regards and thanks in advance Daniel Tiru |
