Imilar words from the lips of the captain, but they were in safety then on board their stout ship, and they had allowed them to pass away unheeded. Now, although they still hoped to escape, they could not help acknowledging that they were in a fearfully perilous position. Still no one replied. What was passing in their minds Andrew could not tell. He continued, addressing them in the same strain for some time. Again and again he told them of the Saviour's love, and how earnestly He desired them to come to Him and be saved. Archy, however, had drunk in every word Andrew had said. "But would Jesus pardon me, who has so grievously offended Him?" he asked at last--"me, who have so often been told of His loving kindness and mercy?" "Yes, lad, that He will," said Andrew, taking Archy's hand, "He has promised it, and His |

Think none the better of it for that." "Men must work though women may weep," said Wedderburn with profound gravity. "Fancy dying away from every comfort in a nasty swamp! Fancy being ill of fever with nothing to take but chlorodyne and quinine--if men were left to themselves they would live on chlorodyne and quinine--and no one round you but horrible natives! They say the Andaman islanders are most disgusting wretches--and, anyhow, they can scarcely make good nurses, not having the necessary training. And just for people in England to have orchids!" "I don't suppose it was comfortable, but some men seem to enjoy that kind of thing," said Wedderburn. "Anyhow, the natives of his party were sufficiently civilised to take care of all his collection until his colleague, who was an ornithologist, came back again from the interior; though they could not tell the species of the orchid, and had let it wither. And it makes the |

Nes of defense. 4. Of zones and lines of operations. 5. Of temporary strategic lines and lines of communications. 6. Of natural or artificial obstacles to be overcome or to oppose to the enemy. 7. Of geographical strategic points, whose occupation is important, either for the offensive or defensive. 8. Of accidental intermediate bases of operations between the objective point and the primary base. 9. Of points of refuge in case of reverse. For illustration, let us suppose the case of France invading Austria with two or three armies, to be concentrated under one commander, and starting from Mayence, from the Upper Rhine, from Savoy or the Maritime Alps, respectively. The section of country which each of these armies traverses may be considered as a zone of the general field of operations. But if the army of Italy goes but to the Adige without concerted action with the army of the Rhine, then what was before but a zone becomes for that army a theater of operations. In every case, each theater must have its own base, its own objective point, its zones and lines of operations connecting the objective point with the base, either in the offensive or the defensive. It has been taught and published that rivers are lines of operations _par excellence._ Now, as such a line must possess two or three roads to move the army within the range of its operations, and at least one line of retreat, rivers have been called lines of retreat, and even lines of maneuver. It would be much more accurate to say that rivers are excellent lines of supply, and powerful auxiliaries in the establishment of a good line of operations, but never the line itself. It has also been maintained that, could one create a country expressly to be a good theater of war, |

The rigid principles of the house he should be dismissed if discovered spying. To lose the respect of those five persons seemed to him as serious as public dishonor. He waited three quarters of an hour; then he resolved to surprise Madame de la Chanterie and come upon her suddenly before she expected him. He invented a lie to excuse himself, saying that his watch was wrong; for which purpose he set it on twenty minutes. Then he went downstairs, making no noise, reached the door of the salon, and opened it abruptly. He saw a man, still young, but already celebrated, a poet, whom he had frequently met in society, Victor de Vernisset, on his knees before Madame de la Chanterie and kissing the hem of her dress. If the sky had fallen, and shivered to atoms like glass, as the ancients thought it was, Godefroid could not have been more astonished. Shocking thoughts came into his mind, and then a reaction more terrible still when, before the sarcasm he was about to utter had left his lips, he saw Monsieur Alain in a corner of the room counting out bank-notes. In an instant Vernisset was on his feet, and the worthy Alain looked thunderstruck. Madame de la Chanterie, on her part, gave Godefroid a look which petrified him; for the twofold expression on the face of the visitor had not escaped him. "Monsieur is one of us," she said to the young poet, with a sign towards Godefroid. "Then you are a happy man, my dear fellow," said Vernisset; "you are saved! But, madame," he added, turning to Madame de la Chanterie, "if all Paris had seen me, I should rejoice in it. Nothing can ever mark my gratitude to you. I am yours forever; I belong to you utterly. Command me as you will and I obey. I owe you my life, and it is yours." "Well, well, young man!" said the kind Alain, "then be wise, be virtuous,--only, /work/; but do not attack religion in your books. |

S the other for the opposite reason: as masters and paragons in economy, as _prudent_ amphitryons. Nobody can equal them in the art of providing a princely board with such a modest outlay.--The Wagnerite, with his credulous stomach, is even sated with the fare which his master conjures up before him. But we others who, in books as in music, desire above all to find _substance_, and who are scarcely satisfied with the mere representation of a banquet, are much worse off. In plain English, Wagner does not give us enough to masticate. His recitative--very little meat, more bones, and plenty of broth--I christened "_alla genovese_": I had no intention of flattering the Genoese with this remark, but rather the _older recitativo_, the _recitativo secco_. And as to Wagnerian _leitmotif_, I fear I lack the necessary culinary understanding for it. If hard pressed, I might say that I regard it perhaps as an ideal toothpick, as an opportunity of ridding one's self of what remains of one's meal. Wagner's "arias" are still left over. But now I shall hold my tongue. 9. Even in his general sketch of the action, Wagner is above all an actor. The first thing that occurs to him is a scene which is certain to produce a strong effect, a real _actio_,(10) with a basso-relievo of attitudes; an _overwhelming_ scene, this he now proceeds to elaborate more deeply, and out of it he draws his characters. The whole of what remains to be done follows of itself, fully in keeping with a technical economy which has no reason to be subtle. It is not Corneille's public that Wagner has to consider, it is merely the nineteenth century. Concerning the "actual requirements of the stage" Wagner would have about the same opinion as any other actor of to-day, a series of powerful scenes, each stronger than the one that preceded it,--and, in between, all kinds of _clever_ nonsense. His first concern is to guarantee the effect of his work; he begins with the third ac |

I have not checked the details of the DNS RFC, but I think this sounds rather strange. I'd say that if the reply comes from another address than to where the request was sent, then the handset does correct in discarding/ignoring the reply. I suggest that you check if you can find the answer in the DNS RFC (RFC1035, http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc1035). The Mobile IP applications I have been working with have a DNS address setting for the home network, and does not use the address received from the local network (e.g. via DHCP or PPP) as this does address is often not accessible from the MN home address. Hope this helps, Björn |

Folks, I'm sorry for such a basic question, I have tried 2 other lists that are no longer active. This is a general Mobile IP question as opposed to something specific about the Dynamics implementation. If a better list exists to post this to, please let me know. I am coming up to speed on RFC 3344 as fast as I can. I have a customer who believes the following scenario is acceptable for a Mobile IP connection and I don't know whether I should modify the handset to accomodate the network or not. Without Mobile IP in the question I would tell the customer to go pound sand. In a nutshell... PPP traffic provides handset with: Primary DNS server address Secondary DNS server address IP address Mobile IP Registration Reply provides handset with: Home address Home agent Using Home address, handset sends DNS standard query to primary DNS server address. Handset receives DNS standard response from different IP address than the query was sent to and rejects packet. At this point log endlessly repeats the three packets: DNS query DNS response (different address) ICMP Destination unreachable (Port unreachable) Leaving the "customer is always right" adage out of this discussion, is the customer correct that the DNS response can come from a different IP address within confines of Mobile IP? Cheers, T.mike |
