Hello i am wondering when X264/H.264 and uncompressed AVI support will be added to this excellent software. The MP4 option should really be for X264/H.264 encoded material. I would also like to have much better size support for mpeg2 and better bitrate option. All options right does not produce the best quality possible. Maybe it does produce the best for DVD format but not for other more modern options. I hope these options are not to hard to implement i have tried myself to modify the code but when using vcodec libx264 in dvd-slideshow it does not work. |

Hello, Is it OK if dvd-slideshow-editor: http://code.google.com/p/dvd-slideshow-editor/ be added to the "using dvd-slideshow" section under main wiki here: http://dvd-slideshow.sourceforge.net/wiki/Main_Page Is it good enough to be mentioned there? Can someone help me with that? Thanks much ! -- Irwan |

I'm at my wits end trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong with the kenburns effect. Boiling down to the simplest, I can't make even the following work without it being very choppy and jittery (passing -H seems to make it worse). the command: dvd-slideshow -mp2 -n 'slideshow' -f slideshow.txt slideshow.txt : background:0::#000000 fadein:1 ./dvdSlides/84312d76-1893-435b-9952-c195d599d7bf.jpg:5:Imported Photo:kenburns:90%;middle;80%;middle; fadeout:1 background:1 Any ideas what I could look at? yeah, different versions of ImageMagick seem to behave differently, unfortunately. We can try removing the -type TrueColor, but I hope I won't break older versions! I guess I could just require a newer version of ImageMagick... -scott On Wed, 2008-05-21 at 09:47 -0700, Joshua Chamberlain wrote: > Hey again, > > I noticed the composite command worked without "-type TrueColor", so I > removed every instance of "-type TrueColor" from dvd-slideshow. > Titlebar now works. ???? > > Joshua Chamberlain > > > On 5/21/08, Joshua Chamberlain <jav...@gm...> wrote: > Hey, > > Is titlebar working for anyone right now? Hey again, I noticed the composite command worked without "-type TrueColor", so I removed every instance of "-type TrueColor" from dvd-slideshow. Titlebar now works. ???? Hey, Is titlebar working for anyone right now? I have no idea why this would suddenly happen to me, but no matter how I use it, titlebar just creates a black slide. I've used dvd-slideshow 0.7.5, 0.8.1, and the latest subversion. I suspect the problem has something to do with ImageMagick because the command dvd-slideshow uses to composite the images into a title slide (line 1314?) only creates a solid black image no matter what images I feed into it. The command: composite -compose src-over -type TrueColor -depth 8 top_layer.png bottom_layer.png result.png yields a solid black image for me, and that's the form of the command dvd-slideshow uses. I've used ImageMagick 6.3.5, 6.4.0, and one other (forget which at the moment), all with the same problem. Due to my extremely limited knowledge of ImageMagick, I don't know if this would a bug in dvd-slideshow or ImageMagick, or just a problem on my computer (using openSUSE 10.3 btw, and had the same problem on Ubuntu 8.04). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Joshua Chamberlain |

Hey guys, thanks for trying to figure things out. I should have it coded so that if you leave out the audio track, the track will default to "1", so if that's not working, then it is a bug. But upon further examination, it seems this is not your problem. Why? Because "crossfade" will overlap the fading images in time, but the audio tracks don't have an equivalent "crossfade" option (yet). So the way to make this work for now is to use fadein and fadeout instead of crossfade: fadein:1 audio.ogg image.png:audio fadeout:1 fadein:1 audio.ogg image.png:audio fadeout:1 and see if that works. That way, the audio won't be crossfaded. Like I said, the crossfade structure has changed since the last version, so I'm still propagating the changes to peripheral things, and the audio section is one of those places that still has some issues like this. -scott > Paul, > > Your audio needs :1 after it to denote the track, as in > ukernel/ukernel-debate2.ogg:1. I would like to use dvd-slideshow to create a television show for Austin cable vision about the history of free software. Austin cable vision requires files to be submitted in the following format. I am quoting from a MAC oriented document: Settings: DV NTSC 48 KHZ Inculde: Audio and video Markers: None check mark in "make Movie self-contained" The click "Save", This will create a QuickTime movie..... Can dvd-slideshow produce files in this format? Can you give me an example of how to create such? Thank You. -- Paul Elliott 1(512)837-1096 pel...@io... 0;229;0c Hi. After having upgraded to openSUSE 10.3 (+ current packman repository) the fonts are not rendered very smoothly into the video (see attachment). Additionally simple title bars won't appear. I managed to to make the bottom one show up with setting all font_color settings to white. But the bars arn't shown anyway. I assume this problem is specific to openSUSE 10.3. However I tried with a self-compiled dvdauthor and dvd-slideshow with no different result. Any ideas? Best wishes UM ------------- Ulrich Müller um...@gr... +49173 9713229 skype: ulrich__mueller icq: 496447782 |

Hi, I was looking at the dvd-slideshow examples (see link below) and finally figured out some resizing info. The NTSC 720x480 scaling factor is: 720/480 x 3:4 = 1.125 The image, flower3.jpg starts out at 427x640. The height, 640, is scaled to 480 (the max in this case). The image aspect ratio is maintained, so the 427 become 320. Which to accommodate for the 4:3 non-square pixel aspect ratio, become 320*1.125 or 360x480. background.jpg is 700x467. 700*1.125 = 787.5 Scaling that back down to 720 (the max), reduces the height to 427, or 720x427 This doesn't seem to accommodate for the overscan area (http://www.videoessentials.com/D_Theater_signals13.php). So if one cares about the outer portion of their images, they should shoot for less than 720. I ran into this a lot with creating the menu. But this is my first adventure into creating a dvd for photographs. Good thing we have dvd-rw technology ;-) When you see all that is involved you really appreciate all the work the author has done. Wow! Hope someone else can benefit from this info. Thank you. Line to examples: http://dvd-slideshow.sourceforge.net/wiki/Examples |

Hi dvd-slideshow-users, Fleur, > What's changes exactly using -sharpen option ? > When is useful set this option? DVD-Slideshow invokes imagemagick with the sharpen option. Take a gander at: Imagemagick: http://www.imagemagick.org/script/command-line-options.php#sharpen gimp: http://gimp-savvy.com/BOOK/index.html?node63.html Discussion on imagemagick sharpen: http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=004OSN It's like GIMP's unsharp mask. I think the best answer is, try it. I tried High Quality and Sharpen, and decided to just go with High Quality, and do all other modifications outside of DVD-Slideshow. > I'm using the -flv option to generate flsh video file but without > ... > What's is wrong with this option? I don't have any experience with this option. All I can say is, it appears to be alpha as of 8.0. Perhaps others can contribute a response. |

Hi dvd-slideshow-users, Fleur, You ask very good questions. I too have been struggling with what size photo should I input to dvd-slideshow. I'm NTSC and went with 576x480 after doing some research, and my images are getting chopped off at the top and bottom. Does dvd-slideshow take into consideration the TV's overscan area? I played around with a grid and it seems I lose 40 pixels on the left and right. I hope others chime in on this topic. What are safe sizes to input to DVD-Slideshow? A) What's sq_to_dvd_pixels=93,75%? I believe, that is the adjustment for computer square pixels to TV non-square pixels and maintaining the aspect ratio. http://www.uwasa.fi/~f76998/video/conversion http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/video_guide_06.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Display_resolution B) My source images are ALL 720x576 but why dss thinks it's 675x576? I'm guessing, see A) Side note: since you are using PAL, if you are looking for a GUI try manDVD. C) Why autocrop_w=0/h=1 ? (why not autocrop_w=1 because image_w=675?) I've tried recompiling from SVN (0.8.1) but no changes. With autocrop=0 images have 2 left&right whitebars (background is white) DVD-Slideshow determined, image too wide, crop height. Have to remember the difference in aspect ratio. HTHS PS: Just wanted to say nice job on dvd-slideshow. It is very much appreciated. |

What's changes exactly using -sharpen option ? When is useful set this option? I'm using the -flv option to generate flsh video file but without change the size (so using PAL 720x576 25fps) which BAD quality; .FLV files are smaller the .VOB (the same project 2MB in flv 120MB in vob) but they have a smaller resolution (1/4 ?!?) and transition have bad artifacts and "cubes" effect for FREE :-) What's is wrong with this option? Bye Fleur |
